Hello and welcome to Living Supernaturally, where we take this time to meditate on the word of God and we do this every day. Today, we are going to look at a portion of scripture, where we look at the words of the Lord Jesus. Typically, these were the words that the Lord spoke when He was on the cross, and this is what we read in John chapter 19 and verse 25, ‘Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!” Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home.’ We see something that is played out here in a moment of great pain and suffering. From the birth of the Lord Jesus, Mary, the earthly mother of the Lord had been there, she had witnessed many things. She had witnessed the ups and downs, she had witnessed the miracles, she had witnessed something supernatural happening, the shepherds coming and worshipping, the angels and the wise men, and all that she has seen. In fact, she has also seen the opposition, the rejection but nothing of this sort and this intensity, where there was public humiliation, there was physical pain and agony and seeing her Son, who was the Lord going through that right before her eyes and she is standing there witnessing all of that quietly. Even though this was prophesied by Simeon and if we recall, we see that as the Lord Jesus was taken into the temple to do the ritual circumcision, Simeon looks at Mary and he says, a sword will pierce through her bones; while Jesus was still a baby. Even though it was prophesied, nothing could prepare her for this kind of agony, of seeing her Son suffer. This is what the Lord does and this is what He did when He saw Mary, when He saw the women there, when He saw John, His beloved disciple standing there and what He did shows His concern for others, in this case, the future of Mary. He entrusts the future care of Mary, His mother to His beloved disciple John. Such was His love and such is His love for us, this agape which is unconditional, immeasurable and limitless. We learn certain things; we observe certain things from this whole incident. We learn about the kind of love that the Lord has for us which puts others first despite the self-undergoing immense pain and this was love demonstrated in action right then and there. We also learn that the Lord esteems and values and respects and cares about family and earthly relationships, this again is love demonstrated in action. In fact, family being something that He designed. Psalm chapter 113 talks about how He raises the poor out of the dust and how He grants a barren woman a home like a joyful mother of children. This is an example for us to follow, to be mindful of the needs of others and especially those in our family. Ephesians chapter 5 and verse 1 says, ‘therefore, be imitators of God as dear children as we walk in love.’ Let’s pray and look into our own lives and commit ourselves to God today, Father God, even as we come before you and look at what you did and what you value as family and relationships, we pray that we will do the same for those in our family, that we would esteem the family relationship, that we would take care to extend care and help and whatever else they might need. We pray that you will enable us to do it. We repent if we have not done this and we choose to do this today, in Jesus’ matchless name we pray, Amen.
