Sermons church in Bangalore
Greetings and thank you for the opportunity to come to you today and spend this time with you. This week, we are talking about prayer basics, reviewing scripture on some essential aspects of prayer. Today, we turn our attention to Daniel chapter 6 and verse 10, it tells us about Daniel here, it says, "When Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home and in his upper room with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day and prayed and gave thanks before his God as was his custom since early days." Now all of us are familiar with this situation that Daniel found himself in. Daniel was a highly ranked officer in the king's court; he was a man with a very important position but things weren't going really well at that time. There were a large number of people were against him and fully intended to get him into serious trouble. So, when they got the king to sign an edict that anybody who prayed to any other god will be thrown into a den of lions and that was serious, Daniel heard about it but he went and did something. It says, ‘he went and he faced Jerusalem and he prayed three times that day.’ The interesting thing is that was not the only day he prayed three times. It tells us here in the end of verse 10 ‘as was his custom from early days.’ That means this was the way he did life. It was just normal - three times a day. I'm not saying all of us should do three times a day. But Daniel practiced prayer and he made it a habit. He made it part of his daily routine where three times a day, he went to a certain place and he knelt down and he prayed and it tells us he even gave thanks to God in spite of all the difficult situation that was going on. The point I want to bring our attention to is we should make prayer a habit. The way we do that is to have a set place and a set time, just like Daniel. He had a set place that was a place in his room that faced Jerusalem. Set time - three times a day. Now we can do it once a day in the morning, once a day in the evening, whatever works for all of us, a set time, set place and that will help us make prayer part of our daily routine and prayer becomes a good habit. Now we're not doing it, out of a sense of religion, but we're doing it because we enjoy it, because prayer becomes a pleasure, it becomes a joy, it's something you enjoy doing. And so, you go back to the same place at the same time and you engage with God in prayer and you and I are able to maintain a consistent life of prayer. So, I want to encourage us make prayer a habit. Have a set time and a set place. It becomes part of your routine and you just enjoy doing it. Let's close, Father, we ask that you help each of us develop a life of prayer, that we enjoy spending time in your presence. We thank you that you'll help us by your Spirit, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
