Galatians - Freedom In Christ (Daily Devotional)

Greetings and welcome to Living Supernaturally. Thank you so much for giving us this opportunity to minister to you and spend a few moments in prayer. Galatians chapter 5 and verse 1, ‘It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.’ In Galatians chapter 5, verse 1, Paul reminds the Galatian believers that it is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Believers are forgiven on the basis of Christ's perfect sacrifice. Now as believers, we can live in freedom from the law and we can live in freedom from the consequences and from the power of sin. The occasion of Paul's letter to the Galatians was that false teachers had somehow crept into the churches there. These teachers promoted legalism and tried to require Christians to observe the Old Testament - rules, laws, ceremonies, and especially circumcision. Paul in no uncertain terms says that for freedom Christ has set us free and that as Christians, you and I, as believers should not go back to the law and the yoke of bondage. The law's purpose was to reveal our sinfulness and bring us to Christ. In Galatians chapter 5 and 6, Paul defends the normal Christian life. Paul demonstrates that justification is true because of the moral transformation that it brings in believers by virtue of the Holy Spirit. Paul also made it emphatic that the liberty people have today, living in headlong pursuit of freedom which they think they are doing okay but they are not. In Christ, we are free from Mosaic's law, the oppressive system, we are free from the penalty and the power of sin. We sort to gratify our desires and lived by ourselves. We were dead in our sins and we were destined to face the consequences of sin and death. Yet, when we trusted Jesus for our salvation, our lives completely changed. We are released from the law’s bondage because of freedom; Christ has set us free. As believers, the Holy Spirit dwells inside of us characterized by joy. The Bible is clear that Christian freedom is not a license to sin. Instead, believers are free not to live for sin and are free to live holy in Christ. Believers are free to live an abundant life and we have been given everything we need for godliness. So, God did what the law could not do. He sent His son in a body like the bodies we have and, in that body, God declared an end to sin's control by giving over His son as a sacrifice for our sin. Now we have this freedom! Can we live in God's ways and love one another in the power of the Spirit?

Let us pray, Father, we thank you for reminding us this today that we are free in you and it is for freedom that you have set us free. We pray that we will not be set by rules and regulations, but we will remember that you have set us free and we will walk in that freedom, obedient and following your footsteps, in Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
