You Will Receive Power (Daily Devotional)

Greetings and thank you so much for joining us today on this daily devotional, as we spend time this week reigniting our passion to be soul winners, for personal evangelism and being witnesses for the Lord Jesus Christ. I want to remind us of what the Lord Jesus said in Acts chapter 1, verse 8, He said, ‘you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.’ What an interesting commission! Can you imagine Jesus in Jerusalem, He is about to ascend from the Mount of Olives which is outside Jerusalem. He has got a band of disciples, probably 120 or maybe a little more-maybe 500, we are unsure about how many disciples were there that day on the Mount of olives. He is telling them, you are going to be my witnesses to the ends of the earth, meaning this message is not just for Jerusalem or the district of Judea or the neighboring district of Samaria but it is going to go all over the world and He says, I’m going to send you the power of the Holy Spirit for one reason- you shall be witnesses to me. The power of the Holy Spirit has been given to us for one reason- to be witnesses. The Holy Spirit has come to empower us for one reason. Of course, we have to understand there are many other things the Holy Spirit will do- He will guide us into all truth and teach us all things. But here in this verse, He is focusing on this one thing- the Holy Spirit will come upon you bringing you power for this very day, to be my witnesses till the end of the world. As the apostles, after the day of Pentecost were filled with the Holy Spirit, in Acts chapter 5, verse 25, they said this, ‘And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.’ They say we are witnesses with the Holy Spirit whom God has given to us. I want to ask you as a believer, the Holy Spirit is upon you, dwelling in you, of course, He is working in our lives, helping and empowering us etc. But one of the most important things He has come to do is to help us be witnesses for Jesus Christ. So, don’t stifle what the Holy Spirit wants to do in your life. Don’t quench what the Holy Spirit wants to do and step out there knowing that as you are a witness for Jesus, you are empowered by the Holy Spirit to do that. We will talk about it in the week to come, how the Holy Spirit empowers us as we step out to be witnesses for Jesus. You have received power because the Holy Spirit has come on you and He has come there to help you be a witness for Jesus Christ. You are not doing this alone, He is there. Let’s pray, Father, we thank you for the presence and power of the Holy Spirit on our life, empowering us to be witnesses for Jesus. At every opportunity, help us to remember, He is with us and we are witnesses together with the Holy Spirit of our Lord Jesus Christ. Help us step out boldly, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
