Shalom and thank you for joining us for our series on Living Supernaturally. We have been learning about what God’s word says about truth and I trust it’s been a time of learning and meditation for you. We are going to focus on worship in truth and that we read from scripture, John chapter 4, verse 24, ‘God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.’ True worship, Jesus says must be in spirit and truth. We see this scripture when Jesus was speaking with a Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well. This conversation was quite unusual as Jews and Samaritans rarely interacted. Historically we know that there was animosity between thee two groups of people because of their religious and ethnic differences. One of the key differences between the Samaritans and the Jews was their place of worship. The Jews believed that Jerusalem was only the legitimate place/ location to worship God whereas the Samaritans believed that Mount Gerizim was the chosen place. This disagreement in itself really fueled a lot more of animosity between these two groups. Jesus’s conversation with the Samaritan woman at the well in itself broke down a lot of barriers and challenges of this traditional understanding of worship. John chapter 4, verse 24 states, ‘God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.’ This teaching of Jesus implied to the Samaritan that worship is not limited to a specific place/ location or even a ritual but it is rather a matter of the heart and obedience to the commands of God. In order to worship in truth, what do we do? We must align our worship to the truth of who God is and what He has made known to us through His word. This entails accepting the truth of what the word of God says which is the truth that Jesus is the fulfillment of God’s plan in redemption for all of us. The truth that our relationship with Jesus is based on faith and obedience to the teachings of Christ. The truth that what he has done for us on the cross and His sacrifice has been appropriated in our lives today and the truth of God being of infinite value and He is worthy of all infinite passion. Whenever we worship in truth, we remain rooted in the understanding of who God is, God’s nature and His word. We worship with a heart that is inclined towards God and being in submission to Him. We worship when our attitudes and our actions and our words declare that He is worthy of our praise. Worshipping in truth is more about who God is and it is based on what is revealed about Him in the word. So, when we worship, let’s worship in spirit and in truth. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, move us to worship you in spirit and in truth, the truth of who you are and what you have revealed of yourself in your word, the truth that you have died for us on the cross and the truth that you deserve all our worship, praise and passion. Seek us and may we come to a place of worshipping you in spirit and in truth, in Jesus’s name we pray, Amen.
