Shalom, it is wonderful to have you as we look into the last episode of this series on wisdom from the wilderness journey. We have been focusing on the Israelites’ journey in the wilderness, picking up important lessons for us to go through and to understand even when we may have our seasons of hardships or difficult circumstances.
We pray that some of these truths and the wisdom that we’ve learnt and picked up from the journey of the Israelites will truly be of help and support to us. We looked and saw that every wilderness journey has its own trials, delays, moments of doubt but despite these hardships, God always remains faithful to His promises. From the very beginning, we see that God promised the Israelites a land flowing with milk and honey. Even before they set out from their journey, the Lord promised that He would take the Israelites to a promised land- a land flowing with milk and honey. Though this journey took forty years, not one of the promises of God failed. Joshua chapter 21, verse 45 reads, ‘Not a word failed of any good thing which the Lord had spoken to the house of Israel. All came to pass.’ We see that many Israelites struggled to keep God’s promises in view and that is what we learn today. In any time of our wilderness, we need to keep the promises of God in view. They let their immediate circumstances, their hunger, thirst and fear determine what was happening rather than faith in God’s word. They doubted, complained and even wished to return back to Egypt, forgetting that the promise of God was still ahead of them. When we face those wilderness seasons in our lives, that time of uncertainty, waiting, disappointment, the key lesson we can learn here is to keep God’s promises in view, hold on to His promises even when the journey is challenging or feels very uncomfortable. How do we keep God’s promises in view when we are facing the wilderness? One way is to shift our focus from our problems to God’s promises through prayer and meditating on scripture. The Israelites often focused on their difficulties rather than the promise ahead. They kept their eyes on their difficulties rather than on God. How else do we keep God’s promises in view? When we are patient and trust that God is at work, God is working even when we can’t see it. The Israelites expected fulfillment of the promise then and there but God’s promises are realized in His perfect timing and not in ours. Another way is to develop an attitude of thankfulness, gratitude and speak words of faith, speak into your situation and speak to the mountain. We see complaining blinded them but we can learn from that to speak faith into our situations. Declare what you want to see, and declare God’s word over your situation. Even in the wilderness, God’s promises are true, He is the one who is faithful. In our wilderness journey, let’s keep in mind that God’s promises are to come, that our promised land will be ours.
Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, I pray for everyone who maybe going through difficult situations. We keep your promises in view, we speak to these situations that every mountain will be broken down, every obstacle will be broken. We pray for miracles, open doors, parting of Red seas in the life of your people. We thank you that your promised land is for us. Thank you that you will lead us into it by your grace and power. Thank you for these lessons, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
