Hello everyone, thank you so much for journeying, as we examine the direct claims of Jesus, the ‘I am’ claims as they are known. Today, we will look at His claim of being the vine. John chapter 15 and verse 5, He says, ‘“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.’ The Lord Jesus is claiming to be the trunk of the vine, and He calls His disciples, those who believe in Him as the branches. We understand that the life of the vine is in the trunk and the nourishment goes through the trunk into the branches and therefore we know that the Lord Jesus is our source of life and everything pertaining to life. His life flows into us, the branches and we are nourished, we grow, the Father prunes as the passage also speaks and we also recognize that the branches are the fruit bearing part of the vine. The fruit refers to the outcome of our life and our ministry but the beautiful thing we notice here is that God is releasing life into our being through which we can bear fruit. He is not asking us to do anything by ourselves, but He is with us, His life is there for us to be able to do the works which He is calling us to do. We also see that He wants us to bear much fruit or be very fruitful because of our connectedness with Him. Jesus, when He referred to Himself as the vine and us as the branches, also is saying that we need to be connected to Him. It is when we abide in Him and He abides in us, that our life becomes fruitful and without Him, we can do nothing. That simply means that any form of self dependance, will not amount to anything. We need God in our lives and in everything that we do and that form of dependance is something that we must maintain. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, thank you that we can abide in Christ and thank you for the God kind of life that flows and fills every part of our being. We pray for fruit, we pray for your strength to accomplish every purpose which you have for us, in Jesus’s name we pray, Amen.
