Greetings and thank you so much for the opportunity to come to you today and spend these few moments from God’s word and prayer. We are talking about the rapture of the church this week and yesterday, we considered what the apostle Paul had described for us in 1 Thessalonians chapter 4, verses 13 to 18. There is a parallel passage in scripture in 1 Corinthians chapter 15, verses 51 to 58, where again the apostle Paul described what will happen when the Lord comes for His church, ‘Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So, when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?’ We see in these two passages, 1 Thessalonians chapter 4 which we read yesterday and in 1 Corinthians chapter 15 which we read today where he talks about the trumpet sounding. These trumpets must not be confused with the seven trumpet judgements that we read about in the book of Revelation chapter 16 onwards, those are the final set of judgements to be poured out on the earth. But these two trumpets in 1 Thessalonians chapter 4 and 1 Corinthains chapter 15, verse 52 are two different trumpets which have to do with the coming of the Lord for the church. When we understand how trumpets are used in the bible especially in the Old Testament, we see that trumpets were used to announce something significant happening, the gathering/ assembling of God’s people and the trumpet was also used to mobilize people into action, that’s how we see the trumpet being used in the Old Testament. Here, in 1 Thessalonians chapter 4, verse 16, as the Lord is about to descend, there is the voice of an archangel and the trumpet sounding announcing that the Lord is going to come and then there is a last trumpet. We ask, why is it the last trumpet? Because it is the sounding announcing the end of the church age. The sound of the last trumpet, believers are going to be instantly changed, they are going to receive glorified bodies and it is the culmination of everything God has been doing. Saints are going to receive their glorified bodies and assembled mid air to meet the Lord. At the sound of the last trumpet, there is a gathering together of saints, saints receiving glorified bodies to meet the Lord in the air and so shall we be forever with the Lord. May our hearts be open and alert, awaiting the return of the Lord Jesus Christ. Let’s pray, Father, we thank you for things you have revealed to us in scripture. We ask that you will help us live lives totally committed and ready and awaiting the coming of the Lord, in Jesus’s name, Amen.
