The Fruit of the Spirit - Goodness – Choosing What Is Right (Daily Devotional)

Greetings and welcome to Living Supernaturally. Thank you once again for this opportunity to minister God's word and to spend few moments in prayer. This week, we have looked at different aspects of the fruit of the Spirit and today, we'll look at goodness, which is doing what is right. Galatians chapter 6 and verse 9, ‘Let us not become weary in doing good.’ Imagine you have to take an exam and you have the opportunity to cheat without getting caught. Would you choose to do what is right? Our choices reveal our character. The world often says, "Do what benefits you." But God teaches us to choose what is right even if the situation is difficult, costly, or unnoticed. Goodness is not just about avoiding evil; it is about choosing to do what is right and pleasing God. Goodness begins with God's character. God is the source of all goodness. Everything that is truly good flows out of His character and His nature. We do not become good by trying harder, but as we walk in the Spirit, as we yield to the work of the Holy Spirit, we begin to walk in the goodness of God. The more we spend time in God's presence, the more He shapes our character and the more we begin to walk in His goodness. When Moses asked to see God's glory, God responded, "I will cause my goodness to pass by you and in front of you." Goodness is not something that God does; goodness is who He is. Goodness means choosing integrity. Integrity means doing what is right even when nobody is watching. It is easy to do what is right when people are watching you, but real goodness comes from those private decisions. God sees every choice we make and He delights and seeks to be honored in those choices. When Potiphar's wife repeatedly tempted him, Joseph had the choice. Nobody was watching, nobody was there, his family wasn't there, his friends weren't there, but Joseph chose obedience over pleasure. He chose integrity over convenience. Doing what is right may cost you temporarily, but it will never cost you God's favor. Joseph responded and said, "How can I sin against my master and how can I sin against God?" Goodness is seen through our actions. In Matthew chapter 5 and verse 16, it says, "Let your light so shine before others that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." Goodness is not just inwardly, it's also visible outwardly. People should experience God's goodness through our lives. Jesus told this parable of the good Samaritan in Luke chapter 10. A man was attacked, left injured. A priest passed by and did nothing. A Levite passed by and did nothing. But a Samaritan passes by, he stopped, he bandaged the man's wounds, he took him to an inn, and paid for his care. The Samaritan not only felt compassion, but his kindness was shown in action. Here are some practical ways that we can walk in goodness. Make decisions that honor God. Practice integrity daily. Look for opportunities to do good. Resist temptation and reflect Jesus everywhere. Again, goodness is not passive. It is active obedience in God's will. When we walk in His goodness, His light shines through us, in us, which draws people to the salvation, to the love of Jesus Christ. Let's pray, Father, we thank you for your word, and we thank you for teaching us today that we are called to walk in your goodness. Teach us to walk in this virtue every day that we may see your goodness inside of us, and may reflect it to the people that we minister to, we thank you, in Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
