Greetings and welcome to Living Supernaturally. Thank you so much for giving us yet another opportunity to come your way, minister God's word and take a few moments in prayer as well. This week, we'll be looking at the book of Joshua and glean lessons from the way God dealt with the people of Israel, even as they wandered through that desert and entered into the promised land. Joshua chapter 1, verses 6 to 8, ‘Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them. Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; Do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this book of the law always on your lips; Meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.’ Now Moses led the people of Israel out of Egypt and wandered in the desert for forty long and sometimes difficult years. The people had known no other leader. Now they would be going into their new land without Moses to guide them. What will the new leadership do? As God appoints Joshua, He does not say to him, "It's time for fresh ideas, it's time to do things differently or be creative.” Rather, God says the words of Moses are still relevant. They were right for Israel when they were wandering in the desert and the words will be right for them even as they step into the promised land. It was not that Moses had good ideas, but Moses had spoken the words God had given him to lead and teach Israel. To listen to Moses in the desert was like listening to God Himself. So, God said to Joshua, "Be careful to obey the law my servant Moses gave you. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Now the emphasis given in this command suggests that Joshua needed this strong encouragement. He had a huge task ahead of him. He would need God's strength and courage to conquer Canaan and divide the land as an inheritance for the people of Israel. When Israel and their leadership did according to all the law, they were invincible with God's blessing and strength. Since obedience to God's law was required for Israel's success, it was important to know, understand and value God's word. Joshua not only read God's word, it had to be on his lips, in his mind and inside of him at all times. The final encouragement repeated in Joshua chapter 15 reminds us that Joshua's success did not depend solely on his ability to keep God's word. The presence of God with him was an even greater factor. Today, the Lord promises to be with us always. Jesus, the son of God came and fulfilled the law of Moses and now we know that God through the Holy Spirit comes and lives in our hearts. The Spirit of God helps us understand the words of Moses and the entire scriptures.

Let us pray, Father, we thank you for your word. We thank you for your promises that are so powerful in your word to be strong, to be courageous and not to be afraid. We pray that in every season, in every area of our life, we will apply these words and walk in power and strength, empowered by your Holy Spirit, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
