Greetings and thank you for joining us today for these few moments in the word of God and prayer. We're talking about the believer's authority and just reminding ourselves of scripture texts that teach us about the authority that we have as believers. Today, we're going to look at Mark chapter 16, verses 17 and 18, it records here the saying of the Lord Jesus, He says, "And these signs will follow those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.’ These are the words of the Lord Jesus right before His ascension, that means He's finished the work on the cross, He has been raised from the dead, He's shown Himself alive to His disciples and now He's getting ready to ascend to heaven and these are His final statements that He's making. What does He say? He says, "These supernatural works will accompany those who believe." Notice, He didn't say, "Well, 12 apostles, you're going to be doing this." Or He didn't even say, "You early believers who are here with me, who have seen me, you're going to be doing this." He said, "These signs, these miraculous works will follow those who believe." He was speaking for all people, of all generations to come, for time to come, across the globe, in every culture, in every nation those who would believe. He said this, these signs will follow them. What will they do? He said in my name that means using the authority that I've delegated to them, by giving them the right to use my name. So, as a believer you need to know that the Lord Jesus explicitly gave you the power of attorney, that means He gave you the legal right to use His name. That's why He says, in my name. So, Jesus has authorized you to use His name, that's a serious thing to think about. Because when somebody has given you the power of attorney, what they're literally saying is that they're giving you the right to do what they would do if they were present there physically in that situation. So, in every situation, you and I must think like this. What would Jesus do if He was here in front of a sick person? What would Jesus do in front of a demon-possessed person? What would Jesus do when there were the storms and the winds blowing? What would Jesus do? And the only thing you and I are authorized to do is to do exactly what Jesus would do if He were there physically present. That's what we must do when we use His name. We do not have the right to use His name and do something different, that's not allowed, that's not that's not using the power of attorney correctly. The power of attorney means you use His name to do exactly what He would do if He were there. So, think about the authority Jesus has given you when you face any situation, you take His name to do exactly what He would do and that's what He wants you to do. So, when you say to the winds of the waves, peace, be still, you're doing exactly what Jesus would do. When you say to sickness, in Jesus’ name, go. When you tell demons, in Jesus’ name, leave; you are using the power of attorney to do exactly what Jesus would do and that's what delegated authority means and that's the way you ought to be operating. Let's pray, Lord, we thank you for the power of attorney, the right to use your name, to do exactly what you would do if you were present. May we behave like that, may we conduct ourselves like that to use your name to do what you would do. When we face situations in life and we face demonic works that we will rise up with the authority of Jesus' name and do the works that Jesus would do. Thank you, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
