Greetings and I trust that you, your family, friends and church community are all getting geared up to celebrate the birth of Christ together this Christmas season. We’ve been talking about, do we still need Christmas, 2000 years later? We are reflecting on various thoughts and reasons around that. You see the very first night when Christ was born, the Bible tells us in Luke chapter 2, verses 10 and 11, ‘Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.’ He is saying, I’m bringing you this good news of great joy which is for everybody. In other words, the birth of Christ, even though it was in such a simple, in some sense insignificance, secluded manner, born in a little manger somewhere in Bethlehem, yet that birth, that news about Him coming into this world was for all people. Not only all people at that day and time but for all people across all nations and time. So, do we still need Christmas? Do we still need to proclaim the birth of Jesus to all people, across all nations? I believe so, we still need to do it and so that is reason why we celebrate Christmas. A time and an opportunity to remind/ tell/ inform people about the birth of Jesus and what it means to them personally, how it could impact and transform their lives. We need Christmas because people still need to hear the good news of great joy which can change their lives that there is born this day a savior, the one who gives us eternal life, the one who mediates and brings us to the Father, the one who is Immanuel, God with us. We need Christmas to continue announcing and telling he nations about Christ our Lord. Let’s pray, Lord, we ask that this Christmas season we will take every opportunity we can to inform people about this good news of Christ, our savior and all that He has come to do for us today and how we can change our lives and help us to get this news out, far and wide to all the nations and people, in Jesus’s name, Amen.
