Greetings and thank you for the opportunity to come to you today and spend these few moments in God’s word and prayer with you. This week, we are talking about wise investments. Today, I want to bring our attention to investing in our skill. All of us have certain things that we are good at in doing, we call them competencies, we may use different words- talents, gifts, abilities or skills. It is important for us to recognize what we are good at and develop these skills. Learn about them, increase our knowledge and the ability to do those things and become better at doing that. The book of Ecclesiastes chapter 10, verse 10, the bible says, ‘If the ax is dull, and one does not sharpen the edge, then he must use more strength; But wisdom brings success.’ Think about this simple example/ illustration- if the axe head is dull, you’ve got to put so much effort to accomplish something, cut down a tree but if the axe is sharp, you can do it quickly. So, we are using that to say that if we keep improving/ sharpening our skills, we an get a lot more done in a shorter amount of time. We can be more successful, achieve more, have more impact, reach more, there is a lot more that happens when we keep sharpening our skills and that brings success. So, invest into developing your skills. Sometimes, the skills are intellectual, so keep reading and learning, sometimes, these skills are things we can do with our hands. Whatever the skills/ competencies are, keep building them up, making them better, so we can be more efficient, fruitful and productive and have more outcomes through the exercise or the use of the skills/ competencies that God has given to us. So, remember, when we sharpen the axe head, you can achieve a whole lot more quickly and in a shorter time. So, invest into sharpening your skills. Let’s pray, Father, we ask that you’ll help us to constantly develop, grow and improve the skills you’ve given to us so we can glorify you, serve people better, be more efficient and have better results in the work we do, in Jesus’s name, Amen.
