Greetings and welcome to Living Supernaturally. Thank you so much for giving us this opportunity to spend time in God’s presence and in prayer and God’s word. This week, we are talking about confession and about we as believers have this wonderful opportunity to confess our sins through our merciful high priest. Romans chapter 6, verse 1, the apostle Paul is asking this question to the believers in Rome, ‘Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?’ The question is such a powerful question. Someone said their favorite part of the worship service is the assurance of pardon; then they would come back the next week and again favorite portion is where we can ask forgiveness and continue to live in Christlikeness. But Paul warns us to say that it is important that we do not take God’s grace for granted as if it is a grace that enables us to go on sinning. Paul asks, what shall we say then? Shall we go on sinning that grace may increase? Of course, not! That would disrespect God’s grace and cheapen Jesus’s sacrifice. Paul’s emphatic response is how shall we who are dead to sin, still live in sin? Because of Christ’s substitutionary death, our old life has been crucified on the cross. We are no longer positioned in satan or the works of the flesh or his demonic works but we are positioned in Christ. Ephesians chapter 1 says that you and I are seated together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. We have been given a secure, permanent eternal position which is a free gift of God’s super abounding grace upon all of us. Our practice in life should increasingly harmonize with all that Christ is for we are in union with Him, one with Him, positioned with Him, no longer slaves to sin but alive in Christ. Having died to sin, we continue to grow in the grace, knowledge and the wisdom of Him for we know that we are no longer dead in our sin but we are alive in Christ. When Jesus died on the cross, He became our sin substitute. He paid the price and penalty for our punishment. What we justly deserve was poured out upon Him. Because of our new position in Him, we are perfect and we can practice to reflect this position each day of our lives. There are times when we will fail, there are times when we will succeed but our earnest desire should be to grow in the work, in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ, to grow in maturity and Christlikeness. Let us pray, Father, we thank you for your presence and your word which teaches us to walk in your ways. I pray that you will touch each of our hearts that we will learn to be open and give our hearts to you, to understand that you are a God who has paid the price, all we have to do is come through faith into your presence, to find forgiveness and healing, we give you all the praise and glory, in Jesus’s name we pray, Amen.
