Hello everyone, we'll continue to talk about leadership and let's look at the life of our Lord Jesus Christ and the example that He gave us. The leadership style of the Lord Jesus was servant leadership. Let's read from Matthew chapter 20, verses 25 to 28, it says, ‘but Jesus called them to Himself and said, “you know that the rulers of the Gentiles lorded over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave- just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.’ We see the heart of Jesus in His statement, though He saw that there were leaders around Him who were being very authoritative over the people, He was speaking to His disciples and training them to be leaders who have a servant's heart, to lead in such a manner that the people would benefit and the people will be able to develop themselves in what God has for them. He also states here, He says that the Son of man did not come to be served but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many. We notice that the intention of the Lord Jesus was to serve people, if there was one person who could have an entitled perspective it would have been the Lord Jesus because He is the Son of God, He is the heir of all things and He could have lorded it over His disciples and the people of His times and dictated terms and wanted them to serve Him but instead He's saying that He came to serve the people and that's really a lesson for us. When God gives us influence, He gives us opportunities to lead people, let's remember to serve the way our Lord Jesus did. We look at Philippians chapter 2, verse 3 through 5, which tells us that ‘the Lord Jesus left behind His Heavenly glory, He humbled Himself and He even became obedient to the cross’ and that's the example that He set for us. When the Lord Jesus could walk in humility to that extent and serve the purposes of God, serve us by giving His life for us so that we may have salvation, we, as followers of our Lord Jesus Christ can surely walk in humility. The Lord Jesus demonstrated servant leadership on many occasions and we too can do this for those the Lord has entrusted to us. It's not really about holding titles and positions, instead it's about functioning with a heart of humility in that position that God may have given us. It's about having a heart of compassion for the people, being aware of the needs of the people and knowing where they are at in their journey of accomplishing God's vision and leading them accordingly. So, true leadership is about serving, true leadership is about having the heart of a servant. Let's pray together, Heavenly Father, we thank you for the example of our Lord Jesus, thank you Lord for the way He has served us. Every time we have an opportunity to minister to others, help us to serve from that place of loving people and doing the best for them, just the way you have done, just the way you would do for the people. Lord, we thank you so much for what you're teaching us, in Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
