Greetings and welcome to Living Supernaturally. Thank you once again for giving us this wonderful opportunity to minister God's word and to spend a few moments in prayer. This week, we've been looking at various aspects on being robed with righteousness. Today, we'll talk about the great exchange. 2 Corinthians chapter 5 and verse 21, ‘For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.’ Substitution is one of the most major themes that we see all through the Bible. God instituted the principle of substitution right at the beginning at the garden of Eden where Adam and Eve sinned. By killing an animal and covering their nakedness, God began to paint a picture of what it would take to bring humanity back into a proper relationship with Him. He continued to give this theme to the people of Israel all through in the Old Testament. By giving them the law, God showed them His holiness and demonstrated their inability to achieve that holiness. God then granted them a substitute to pay the price for sin in the form of a blood sacrifice. By sacrificing an innocent animal to pay the price for their sin, the Lord God would look away from the sins of the people of Israel. The animal died in the sinner's place, thereby allowing the sinner to go free. Leviticus chapter 16 tells us about a scapegoat upon which the elders of Israel would place their hands and the entire sin of the nation of Israel was put on that scapegoat. The only acceptable sacrifice for sin was a perfect offering. If we died for our own sins, it's not perfect because we are not perfect and it wouldn't be a sufficient payment. Only Jesus, the perfect God man, fits to take our place and He laid down His life for us willingly and there was nothing we could do to save ourselves. So, God did it for us. The messianic prophecy in Isaiah chapter 53 makes this substitutionary death of Christ abundantly clear. It says, "He was pierced for our transgression, He was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought us peace was upon Him and by His stripes, we are healed.’ Jesus's substitution was perfect. Unlike any animal sacrifice in the Old Testament, Hebrews chapter 10, verse 4 says, "For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.’ God has done for us what we could not do for ourselves." What is God's answer to our situation now? His answer is Jesus Christ, the Son who took our place, died on the cross, bore our sins, took up our condemnation and here's a question we can ask ourselves. Whose flesh bore the condemnation? It was His. Whose sin were being condemned? Ours. This is the great exchange. When we grasp the fullness of this doctrine that we have been both justified and forgiven through the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ and we have been imputed with the righteousness of God. It is through this power that transforms us inside and out. Rooted in our new identity as completely forgiven, completely accepted as His children, we stand as the righteousness of God, standing in right standing with God. So, how are we to then live? This doctrine has implications that permeate every part of our lives. The same way the blood of the Passover had to be personally applied on the doorpost, the same way before we come to Jesus, the righteousness of God in Him, we must exchange our old nature for His holy one. God offers this substitute, but we must receive it personally by accepting Jesus and the work that He did for us on the cross. Let's pray, Father, we thank you for this great exchange. As your word says that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. You became sin so that we might become the righteousness of God. We thank you Lord that you will enable us, empower us by the Holy Spirit to walk with this understanding, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
