Shalom! It is a privilege to come back once again to share God’s word with you. We’ve been looking through this week on the surety of God’s promises. As we reflect on this again, we are emphasizing different scriptures that talk about the certainty of God’s promise. In today’s verse, we read that Jesus emphasizes the eternal nature of His promises, that His promises will remain forever. Matthew chapter 24, verse 35 reads, ‘Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.’ In a world where everything is temporary ad subject to so much change, this gives us such an assurance. God promises that His word is eternal and unchanging and He promises that His word will remain forever. Let’s take a few moments to reflect the significance of this promise and how it can anchor us in our world today. Jesus begins the statement by saying, heaven and earth will pass away. This reminds us that the physical world we live in, all that we see around is temporary, it is fleeting and one day will come to an end. Every material possession, everything that we see will come to an end. This first part, heaven and earth will pass away reminds us again that everything is just temporary. All things in this physical world that we connect to is temporary. When we contrast the temporary nature of the world, Jesus affirms that His word will never pass away, His truth, His promises and His declarations are there to stand and pass through every eventuality. What does this mean to us as we hold on to God’s promises? When there are uncertainties in our life, this verse assures us that there is something that we can always rely on, something that will stand every test of time and circumstance and that we can stand on the word of God. What promises can we hold on to? We know that His promises and word will offer us peace and stability. His promises are timeless, steadfast and unchanging. While everything around us may change, His promises will remain forever. Let this truth truly fill you into the depths of your heart with that peace and assurance knowing that you can always rely on what God has said in His word and the promises He makes to you. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, even as we live in this world that is temporary and fleeting, the only thing that we grip onto is your word. Thank you that your word will remain forever and all that you have said and promised will one day come to fruition. May we depend on your word and see our lives in the way that you see it, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
