Prophecy (Daily Devotional)

Welcome to Living Supernaturally, the daily devotion of All Peoples’ church. We are so glad you have tuned in and we hope this will be a blessing for you, even as we study the word of God. The word of God is powerful, alive, it is supernatural, it is meant to elevate our existence to a supernatural living and is just amazing. Even as we study God’s word today, we are looking at the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The gifts of the Spirit are not just for some special people but for all people, for every believer. It is for everyone who is trained in it and has the faith to receive and accepts the truth that the gifts are for all believers. So, Paul writes in 1 Corinthains chapter 12, encouraging the believer not to be ignorant but to have this knowledge of the working of the Holy Spirit or the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Today, we are looking at this gift of the Spirit which is called prophecy. Last time, we looked at miracles, this time we are looking at prophecy. When we go down to 1 Corinthians chapter 14, there it is listed that he who prophecies speaks edification, exhortation and comfort to man. This gift of prophecy brings edification, exhortation and comfort. To edify is to build up. To exhort is to encourage. To comfort is to bring consolation. It is a supernatural work of God and a supernatural word that is released that brings edification, exhortation and comfort to man. How and what is this prophecy? How does it work? It is God speaking to man. It is the Holy Spirit inspiring or imparting a word/ information to man which that person speaks out or follows through, lives out and obeys. So, it is God speaking to man through man so God gives information to speak out or to do something and the person obeys, so that's the gift of prophecy. In a simple manner, it brings edification, exhortation and comfort but also when we grow in the gift of the prophetic especially in the ministry office of the prophetic, we see that prophecy is also foretelling which has a futuristic element to it but prophecy is also directional. So, we see all this with this gift of prophecy. Now it is for all believers. How is it received? Well, we pray first of all. We quieten our hearts; we pray and the Holy Spirit speaks to us. The Holy Spirit speaks to us in ways in various ways. He brings information, there could be a flash of information in our spirit, there could be a prompting, there could be a weight of the Holy Spirit, He emphasizes certain things to our spirit. So, we pray and we perceive in our spirit and we prophesy. It's really simple. So, take a risk today, take that step of faith and pray, perceive and prophesy to someone. Shall we pray? Father, we thank you for this wonderful gift of the prophetic which brings edification and exhortation and comfort to man. We pray that we will be encouraged and we will take that step of faith today, to step out and to pray, to perceive and to release words that edify, encourage and exhort people. Lord, we pray that you will use us and may we grow in this gift for your name's sake and for your glory, in Jesus’ matchless name we pray, Amen.
