One Thing - You Alone Are God (Daily Devotional)

Hello and welcome to Living Supernaturally. We're so glad that you are here as we study God's word and as we meditate God's word and apply God's word daily in our lives. We've been meditating on the occurrence of ‘one thing’ phrase. Today, we are looking at something slightly different but also pointing to that ‘one thing’ kind of a reference. We are looking at this statement which the psalmist makes and he says, "You alone." We have studied in Psalm chapter 27, where he says, "This one thing I desire that I may dwell in the presence of the Lord, that I dwell in the house of the Lord to gaze upon His loveliness." Here he says, "You alone are God." This is in Psalm chapter 86 and verse 10, for he says, "For you are great and do wondrous things. You alone are God." Let me read that again. "For you are great and do wondrous things. You alone are God." God by definition is omnipresent, omnipotent, omniscient, the characteristics of God, this would make Him the uncreated one, the all-knowing one, the all-powerful one, the ever-present one. And so, if you read through the Psalm chapter 86, there's a psalm crying out to God for attention, for mercy and then he then he goes on to recount the characteristics of God, His goodness, His greatness, and even he tries to compare the other so-called powers of the nations and he says that one day they will worship you. He's saying, this is who you are and he goes on to talk about God, I am in this place, I'm in this struggle and so on, but then he goes back and this is how he wraps up. So, the greatness of God, the goodness of God comes as the reminder to him as he finishes this whole prayer. Now, he does complain to God, he does talk about the things that are not happening in his life, he does talk about that, but he always comes back to this place. He's saying, "For you are great and you do wondrous things, for you alone are God." Now, in our conversations with God, in our prayer with Him, in our going through life and looking at various things around, are we diminishing who God is in our mind, in our thoughts, in our estimation of God, are we diminishing the greatness of God? God is who he says He is. God is who He has described Himself to be in His word. The word of God is the exact or accurate description of who He is. In the word of God or in the pages of the Bible, He has described Himself, He has defined, He has talked about His likes and His dislikes and His opinions and so on. So, the pages of scripture hold the most accurate definition or description of who God is because He is described, He has introduced Himself in the pages of scripture. And so, our assessment of God, our estimation of God sometimes it comes down because of things that are happening around. But the psalmist, he is not living an escapist life, he recounts those things. Now these are my struggles, these are my challenges, these are the people who are against me and so on. But he comes to that place and saying, "God, you are who you say you are, you are great, you do wondrous things, and you alone are God." May we come to that place of saying, "God, you alone are God. You alone are the omnipotent one. You alone are the omniscient one. You alone are the ever-present one." You alone are God, and you do wondrous things, and you will carry out what you have promised. Shall we pray? Father, we thank you, Lord, we agree with the words and the testimony of the psalmist in saying, "You are great, and you do wondrous things, and you alone are God." Yes, Master, you've said that you are the way, the truth, and the life. Salvation comes from no other, there is no other name by which we might be saved. And at your name, every knee shall bow and tongue confess that Jesus, you are Lord. Yes, Lord, we come in agreement and we say, "You alone are our God." We thank you for being our God, lead us, guide us, in Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
