Hello and welcome to Living Supernaturally, we're so glad that you could join us today. We've been studying about in the word, where we see these occurrences of this phrase ‘one thing’. We can definitely learn a lot because this phrase ‘one thing; is spoken by different people in different circumstances and there's an interesting learning for us which we can apply daily. We are looking at Mark chapter 10 verses 17 to 21, and in that this whole incident is about this person who's coming after the Lord, who's running after Him and he's saying, ‘good teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?’ It's like a question which all of us have, maybe we've asked at some point in our lives and this is the question that the world is seeking, world is asking. So, it's a very valid question and he's saying, what should I do in order to come into this eternal life? And so, the Lord Jesus goes through a list of criteria and He says, you know the commandments. Do this, do this, don't do this and so on. To which this person answers and he says, ‘teacher, all these things I have kept them from my youth.’ So, the Lord in verse 21, so we are looking at Mark chapter 10 and verse 21, it says the Lord looking at him, loved him and said to him, ‘one thing you lack." And he says, "What is that one thing?" He says, "Go your way, sell whatever you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven, and come, take up the cross, and follow me." The Lord is not against material things; the Lord is not against riches. In fact, we see that God is a giver of good things. 1 Timothy chapter 6 and verse 17 says that, ‘it is the Lord who blesses us richly with all things.’ But, there's one thing that he says, "One thing you lack." And that lack will be set only when he is able to give away. Verse 22 says, "This person was sad at the word of the Lord, at His response." And it says, ‘he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.’ Now, this person had kept all the rules, don't do this, don't do this, do this. He had kept it diligently since his youth. But there was one thing that had actually got a hold of him and that was his love for his possessions. His possessions had a hold on his heart and that was that one thing which was lacking, that was holding him back from giving his all to the Lord and he went away very sad. So, today, we can ask ourselves that question, what is that one thing I lack? Or what is that one thing that I am holding on to which is a hindrance to giving myself wholly or fully to the Lord Jesus? What is that one thing which is a substitute for God in my life? Something or someone that is taking the place of God in my life or what is that one thing that I lack? Is it a willful act of disobedience? Having known that these are the guidelines, having known that this is the truth and this is the expectation of God, what is that willful act of disobedience? Or what is that one thing I lack? Is it something hidden that is inside of me? A motive, a desire, a resentment, or some form of hatred or offense? What is that one thing that I lack? May the Holy Spirit speak to us this morning and may we set that aside so that we can follow the Lord whole-heartedly, joyfully, and enjoy our journey with Him. Shall we pray? Father, we thank you for this day. We thank you for this encounter this person had with you and this conversation. Even as we look into our own lives, Lord, we ask ourselves this question, what is that one thing we lack? What is that one barrier? Or what is that one thing that we are holding on to? Holy Spirit, I pray that you would speak to us and give us the strength to give it up so that we can follow you whole-heartedly, fully, and joyfully, in Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
