Hello and welcome to Living Supernaturally. Thank you once again for giving us this opportunity to minister God's word and to spend a few moments in prayer. Today, we'll be talking about our silent prayers. Psalms chapter 46 and verse 10 says, "Be still and know that I am God." In a noisy and a busy world, many people are constantly active but spiritually empty. We rush from one responsibility to another, filling our minds with information yet neglecting the most important aspect, the presence of God. But through scripture, God reveals that spiritual knowledge grows not only from activity but also by staying still in the presence of God. Sometimes, we may think that the silent prayer as communicating with God may not be very effective or maybe God wants us to only speak aloud or use many words and sometimes it can just be big words that we want to use in prayer and this is not what God is calling us for. Even Jesus in His ministry withdrew to quiet places to pray. He often withdrew into the wilderness to pray alone, to be in the stillness in the business of His ministry. Jesus understood that spiritual strength, knowledge, and wisdom flow from communion with God. Before major decisions like choosing His 12 disciples, Jesus spent the night in prayer. Stillness brings clarity and wisdom for decisions. Stillness allows God to teach us. Knowledge grows when we sit at God's feet with a teachable spirit. In Luke chapter 10, we see the story of Mary and Martha. Martha was busy serving while Mary was sitting at Jesus' feet listening to Him. Martha was active, but Mary was attentive. Activity does not only produce spiritual depth, intimacy with God will produce spiritual depth. Sometimes, we are spiritually exhausted because we are constantly doing for God without spending time in His presence, and eventually that could lead to a burnout. Many mistakes happen because we react too quickly without seeking God quietly. Being still without using words can help us to reflect God's greatness, His majesty, His power, His beauty, His love, and all the other characteristics of God. We need to be clear that though this is different from meditation, that uses silence as a way to empty our mind or empty our thoughts and just to connect to our inner self, the command here to be still in Psalms chapter 46 has nothing to do with that. It is actually the opposite because notice the words here says, "Be still and listen." Immediately followed by the instruction to know God. Be still and know God. Prayer helps us to grow in our knowledge of God and knowing the heart of God enables us to be in His presence. As Psalms chapter 46 indicates, God is both powerful and kind. Our troubled hearts could be quietened in the silent prayer. So, you and I can practice being silent in God's presence, quiet reflections, and the wisdom, the knowledge of God begins to flow in us through the Holy Spirit. Let's pray, Father, we thank you for you're the God who answers our prayers, and you're the God who hears us, not just the words that we speak, but even those quiet prayers in our hearts. Lord, we pray that each one of us, no matter what season of life we are in, that we will put aside the things that make us busy, and stand still and stay still in your presence, to believe that you are filling us with your wisdom, knowledge, and understanding, to walk as mature believers, to fulfill your purpose for our lives, in Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
