Greetings and thank you for the opportunity to come to you today and spend this time with you in God’s word. We are talking about some biblical guidelines to decision making and the fifth pillar we want to talk about is information. Sometimes, I’m not saying always, we tend to make decisions in a vacuum, we don’t get enough information to make the right decision but that’s not good. Our approach should be, let me get all the information that I can possibly about this subject/ matter at hand so that I can make the right decision. Consider what the bible talks about the prudent man in the book of Proverbs. It says in Proverbs chapter 13, verse 16 that ‘Every prudent man acts with knowledge.’ Proverbs chapter 14, verse 15, ‘The simple believes every word, But the prudent considers well his steps.’ Proverbs chapter 15, verse 5, ‘he who receives correction is prudent.’ Proverbs chapter 22, verse 3, ‘A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself.’ What does this prudent man do? He gets information, he is open to correction, he is pondering on his decisions and he is having foresight or looking ahead and seeing would there be any dangers coming up in the decisions I’m making, So, that is a prudent man. We are not making decisions just in a place of complete ignorance, no, we are acting with knowledge. So, you talk to people, consult people, you get inputs, ask questions, let people share their experience or information they have and that is being prudent. So, when we say act as a prudent man, you are putting information together, you are talking about considering well the circumstance of what is happening around me. We are also talking about timing; timing is also very important. The bible says in Ecclesiastes chapter 8, verses 5 and 6, ‘And a prudent/ wise man's heart discerns both time and judgment for every matter.’ That means for every matter, there is a right thing and time to do it and that is wisdom. So, as we make decisions, this is an important part- information. Information about the situation, circumstances, about the right time, put it all together and you are thinking about it, prayerfully processing it, asking God to help you understand and put it all together and then you are going to make your decision and that is a biblical thing. Consider all the scriptures we just mentioned, there are plenty more. So, make the effort to talk to people, consider your circumstances, consider the timing as you go about making decisions. Let’s pray, Father, thank you that you’ve taught us in your word how to make decisions, you’ve told us to be prudent and help us to do that, in Jesus’s name, Amen.
