Welcome everyone! We are talking about passing a legacy and today, we will talk about some of the foundations of legacy. These pillars of legacy would be character. Character referring to virtues, a noble way of living our life and a God honoring way of living our lives. So, when we imbibe/ develop character in ourselves, we pass on character to the next generation and we know from God’s word that whenever we go by His nature, our lives are fruitful and blessed. So, we are passing on virtues to the next generation which will also help them be strong and thrive in God. Apart from character, some of the other pillars to consider is choices. So, the choices of one generation will impact the other generation and sometimes, what we are doing is that we are teaching the next generation to make similar choices or the same choices. So, we need to be careful as we make our choices today, the way we choose to live for God, choose to serve Him, serve people, these choices become the choices of the next generation as well. So, what kind of choices are we making? Then of course, conduct or our behavior is something that will carry on with the people whom we are impacting or influencing and also, the consequences that we ourselves are experiencing, maybe because of certain decisions, there are things that have transpired in our lives but those consequences also somehow become the reality of the next generation. So, what are those consequences that we are in and we are inviting our next generation into? These are things for us to think of and as we are careful to ensure that the pillars are right, we will leave behind a strong legacy for the next generation. So, they will be able to start off at a good place in their lives. I want to read a quote by John Maxwell, where he said, ‘a leaders lasting values is measured by his succession and the roof of one generation becomes the ceiling of another’. We are responsible to leave behind something good for the next generation with the right pillars and that will enable the next generation to also walk victorious. As we consider some of the lives of the people in the bible, Moses- he left behind a legacy of deliverance, leadership, faith and even law, the way he heard from the Lord and established the laws for the people of Israel. David- his legacy would be devotion, worship, leadership and so we see good pillars in their lives and some of the good things that they left behind. May we also desire to leave behind good things for the generations ahead.
Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, help us to be careful to have the right pillars in our own lives so we can leave behind something good and wonderful of the next generation. Let the legacy that we leave behind, build up the next generation in you and let them make an impact upon the world for your namesake, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
