Daily Devotional church in Bangalore
by Ps Ashish Raichur
Greetings and thank you so much for the opportunity to come your way and spend these few moments in God's word and prayer. It's always our joy to be able to do this together with all our audience and spend these few moments in the word of God. This week, we are revisiting a very special topic, something we've seen many times before and yet it's something that's very important and very close to our hearts and it's about our identity in Christ and just to remind all of us on what God has done for us in Christ and to encourage us to live out of our identity in Jesus. We begin with 2 Corinthians chapter 5 and verse 17, the apostle Paul writes, he says, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. Old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. Now all things are of God." I'm sure many of us have heard this verse of scripture several times in the past, but it's good to come back and remind ourselves that we are a new creation. It says if any person is in Christ, he is a new creation, he's a new work that God has done and old things have been removed. Old things have passed away, God has separated us from the old life whether it's the way or manner of life as well as the connection that we had with the sinful, fallen man of the past, the old Adam or the old nature if you want to use that terminology. God has made us new creation, He has made us people who are partakers of the divine nature, God has put His own life and nature in our spirit and like it says in verse 18, ‘all things are of God.’ So, everything about this new creation is of God and there is no remnant of the old, fallen, sinful, Adamic, evil nature still continuing there because it says all things are of God. Now the important thing for us is to recognize and understand that we are a new creation that God has made us new creation in Christ which means we have a new identity and we learn to live out of this identity and we begin to think aligned to the new identity, the new creation God has made us, we begin to behave or conduct ourselves according to this new identity that God has given to us. So, we choose to live out of this new person that God has made us to be in Christ and we begin to think aligned to that. We begin to conduct ourselves aligned to what God has done for us in Christ. I like to use this little analogy where if there was an orphan kid in the slums but he's been adopted into a wealthy family, he has a new identity. The important thing is he needs to start changing his thinking and the way he lives according to this new family that has adopted him. And in a much greater way, God has adopted us into His own family, given us a brand-new life and identity and we need to learn to live out of that, which is something we're going to journey in this week. Let's pray together, Father, we thank you that you've made us new creation in Christ. You've given us new life, new identity, new family, new name, and new way of life. You've made all things new and all things are of God. Open our hearts, open our minds to understand so that we can live out of the new life you've given to us in Christ, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
