Freshness (Daily Devotional)

Welcome, we've been talking about the essentials that we need to keep moving forward with God. We've talked about faith so far; we've talked about fearlessness and today I want to talk about freshness. The God that we serve, He does new things, He's a God of creativity. Even if you look at the sky and the clouds, every day is painted so differently. He is a God who has created every flower uniquely and God does new things. God is a creative God and so I'm here to remind us that we can depend on Him for freshness to be birthed in us. Today, I want to read for us from Psalms, Psalms chapter 92 and verse 10, it says, ‘But my horn you have exalted like a wild ox; I have been anointed with fresh oil.’ The psalmist recognizes that our God is a God who does new things in our lives. He touches us in a new way every time, He has made us a new creation, He's a God who grants new revelation and here the psalmist is saying that He pours out fresh oil on us, because every day is a day that we can start with new mercies, we can also ask God for fresh oil. What is anointing? Anointing is smearing, the word means smearing of something and God anointed His people in the Old testament, there were kings who were anointed, there were priests who were anointed, there were prophets of God who were anointed, but in the new testament, each one of us, we are filled with the Spirit of God and the anointing upon the people in the old testament was for the tasks that they had to undertake. In other words, they were empowered by the Spirit of God to do what they needed to do. Today, whatever lies ahead of us, God can empower us with His anointing and this scripture shows us that He can provide a fresh anointing each time, a fresh empowering, His mercies are new, His work is new and we don't have to keep going forward with the old strength or the old understanding that we had. No, it did well in times past, but as we look ahead, God promises us fresh anointing oil. He promises something new that He can release to us and as God's people, we can wait upon Him to receive that new anointing, we can receive that new revelation. By this, we're not saying that God will do away with whatever He has taught us till now, but that's not what we're saying, but we're saying that He will keep building us up in a fresh new way. The word ‘fresh’ which has been used in this verse also refers to ‘dew’. If we consider dew, the kind of freshness that it brings to us, in the early morning hours, as we look at the dew, we can understand the way God refreshes the earth with the dew and in the same way God's new anointing will empower us for new assignments and also, it's a fresh anointing, that refreshes our spirits and we can keep going strong with God. Shall we pray together church? Heavenly Father, we thank you that you have promised that you will anoint us with fresh oil and as we look at the year ahead, I pray that God we will receive your new and fresh empowering and that Father, we will keep moving ahead and doing mighty things for the glory of your name, we thank you for the fresh oil, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
