Hello and welcome to yet another episode of Living Supernaturally, where we take time daily to meditate on the word of God, to study and apply the truth in our lives. Today, we are going to look at Mark chapter 15 and we are going to look at a portion of scripture where the Lord says certain things and we are going to look at His sayings when He was on the cross. We go to Mark chapter 15 and verse 34 and it says, ‘And at the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a loud voice saying, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which is translated, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken Me?”’ As we read through the verses following that, we see that people did not understand, they misunderstood and they said look, He is calling for Elijah, maybe let’s see if Elijah will come and save Him and take Him down. Then He actually cries out with a loud voice and breathes His last. At this time, certain supernatural things happened; the veil of the temple in Jerusalem was torn from top to bottom and the centurion who was standing there, he looked at all this and he said, ‘truly this was the Son of God.’ The Lord Jesus, He experienced great pain and suffering, physical, emotional at that point in time. In His life, He faced a lot of opposition, a lot of difficulties and challenges but nothing of this sort, where He faced separation from the Father, where He cries out and He says, My God, My God, why have you forsaken me? And this was something that He had never experienced before and He was experiencing it. As we look at the verse, 2 Corinthians chapter 5, verse 21, it says, that God made Him who knew no sin, to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Christ.’ The Lord not only endured the withdrawal of the Father’s fellowship but also the actual outpouring of the Father’s wrath and punishment. He endured all that for u, He endured all that for humanity which was separated from God. He endured all that, He allowed Himself to be forsaken and allowed Himself to be distanced from that fellowship that He had with the Father, so that we could come close, so that the distance that humanity had with God could be bridged. He was willing to distance Himself so that we could actually be drawn near and so that there could be no distance between us and God. We see this right before us and we see this as a picture of great love and compassion that God has for us. Our response to this removal of this barrier is to accept, is to receive. Many times, when we think about the cross and what He did for us on the cross, we look at the physical suffering and we are amazed that someone could go through such physical suffering for our sake. More than that, is also the spiritual suffering that the Lord undertook, the thing that He underwent when He was separated from the Father. As we look at this, we cannot but see the love that He has for us and respond to the love, this great love. Today, shall we respond to His love by drawing near? Father, we thank you for your great love. We thank you that you chose to be forsaken for our sake, that you chose to take this path, that we could be drawn near, and that we could be in fellowship with the Father and with the Son and the Holy Spirit. We thank you for this and we give you all the praise and glory and we draw near in our hearts today and we honor and esteem what you have done, we give you all the praise and humble ourselves before you, in Jesus’ matchless name we pray, Amen.
