Hello friends, hope you are doing well and continuing strong as you pursue what God has called you to do and especially the students that you are trusting God in this season of your studies and exams. Today, I want to talk about fear and anxiety. We all know that fear is a very normal emotion that all of us go through. Fear is a human response when we face the unknown, something beyond our control or some sort of failures, disappointments. While this is normal, it can sometimes become greater than what we can handle. So, managing emotions like fear and we will talk about anxiety later, is very important. Now, let’s see what God’s word has to tell us. In 2 Timothy chapter 1 and verse 7, Paul wrote to Timothy, ‘For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.’ There is some encouragement right there for us because we understand that God never gave us a spirit of fear, but He has given us a spirit of boldness. He has given us an overcoming spirit. So, whenever we deal with fear, it is good to confess what God’s word says and to personalize this word and say something like, God has not given me a spirit of fear but what has He given me? He has given me a spirit of power and love and it also says sound mind and a sound mind is something that helps us make right decisions, a sound mind can understand things well and make appropriate choices and so the Bible is telling us that the Spirit whom we have received, even the Holy Spirit, He is a spirit of boldness and courage in us. I just want to encourage us, whenever we may feel fear, trust in the word of God. We have not received a spirit of fear but we are overcomers. Now sometimes, we may encounter anxiety, even anxiety is something that God doesn’t want for us. What is anxiety? Anxiety is again an emotion, it is characterized by tension, worry thoughts, we may even show certain physical symptoms like raised blood pressure and things like that but here is what I want us to recognize. God has promised peace in the midst of stress or challenges that we are facing. Isaiah chapter 26, verse 3, it says, ‘You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.’ We can gain much strength from this scripture. It tells us that God has perfect peace with Him, and He gives it to us and for that, what is required? We have to fix our mind on God. So, fix your mind on God, think about who God is to you, the fact that God loves us, He goes before you, He is on your side, He has been with you through the many challenges in your journey. Philippians chapter 4, verses 6 and 7, even that passage tells us that we need to make our thoughts known to God instead of going through anxiety, so that is what I want to encourage all of us to do. We can overcome fear, let’s fix our mind on God and God will release His peace to us. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, we thank you, that we do not have to walk with fear and anxiety but we have this spirit of boldness. We rebuke every spirit of fear and anxiety and we pray that your children will walk in incredible peace and that they will see your faithfulness in their journey, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
