Hello everyone, welcome. We are taking sometime to learn truths from the book of Esther. Let’s begin by reading a scripture. I’m reading from Esther chapter 2, verse 20, ‘Esther had not made known her kindred or her people, as Mordecai had commanded her, for Esther obeyed Mordecai just as when she was being brought up by him.’ Esther responded to Mordecai in a positive way; she listened to what Mordecai had to tell her. We know that Mordecai is in a position of a mentor and almost a parent, taking care of the orphaned Jewish girl, Esther. We see Esther’s humility in being ready to listen to Mordecai. He had given her an instruction of wisdom where he had told her not to reveal who she was, her roots and she heard him. We know that later on again he charges her with respect to the people to bring deliverance to the people and even at that time, she pays attention to what Mordecai has to say. This is Esther’s humility. We could look at the description of Esther in the bible, that she was very beautiful, she had a royal status, the king had incredible favor upon her life and noting all these things, we can assume that she wouldn’t listen to her mentor but she did. Humility comes across so strongly in what Esther did. Despite all of her wealth and opportunity, she still listened to Mordecai and the other important thing we can learn from this her wisdom. There are times when we feel we know everything. However, the bible encourages us to trust the words of counsellors, people around us, our parents, our spiritual leaders, our mentors. They bring wisdom through their experience and it is helpful thing to listen and not to just decide in a rush or in a hurry. It is good to heed the instruction of wise people in our lives and that is how we can move forward. Even in the case of Esther, it was not just Mordecai but we see that she listened to the person in charge of the place where she lived even before she met the king. She took the instructions of the caretaker and that helped her to win the heart of the king. Two things that we have learnt, one is humility and the second one is to heed the voice of wisdom. As we do this, we will see growth, increase and progress in our lives. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, we thank you that your word always speaks to us. We thank you for very practical instructions that we can learn from your word. Help us to obey your word and to follow through with the instruction of your word. Once again, we commit our lives into your hands, be glorified and be honored, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
