Hello and welcome to Living Supernaturally, we are so glad that you could join us on this daily devotional of All People's church. As we spend time looking into God’s word, it is with the intent of studying God’s word, being aware of His word and to meditate on it so that we can apply it in our lives. God’s word can be applied to all situations of our lives, whether we are working or retired, no matter what season of life we are in, we can apply God’s word in our lives. We have been meditating on this theme of God wants to fill us so we can overflow, empowered, strengthened and influenced by the Spirit and we can overflow with His goodness, faithfulness and His power to touch others’ lives. This is God’s desire. Today, we are looking at this verse, Mathew chapter 5, verse 6, which says, ‘Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.’ To be filled is to be generously furnished, liberally given so that there is no space, we are completely filled in order to overflow. So, Mathew chapter 5, verse 6 says, ‘Blessed are those who hunger and thirst…’ This is a basic need; there is a hunger and thirst within a person. We have all experience hunger and when we experience it, we want to be filled, we want to eat food to satisfy that hunger. When we are thirsty, we are longing for that cup of water or drink so we can be filled and our thirst can be satiated. Here, Jesus commends those who are hungry and thirsty but they hunger and thirst for righteousness. What is righteousness? It is the very character and nature of God. To be righteous is to do the right thing in God’s eyes and to have that nature of God within oneself and to be right with God and man. It says in the verse that those who hunger and thirst for righteousness shall be filled. In fact, 2 Corinthians chapter 5, verse 21 says, ‘For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.’ As believers, something wonderful has happened, we have bene made the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. We have that as the starting point but blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness. Mathew chapter 6, verse 33 says, ‘when we seek Him and His righteousness, all other things shall be added.’ It is God’s desire that we would pursue and seek righteousness. When we say we are seeking righteousness, it means justice, fairness and goodness, which are the foundations or building blocks of the throne of God’s kingdom. When we speak up and seek justice on behalf of those who need it or for ourselves or for all of life’s situations, we see that it is God’s will and He wants to fill us with His righteousness. Shall we pray? Father, we thank you that when we crave, hunger and thirst for righteousness, it is a good thing in your eyes and you want to fill us to overflowing so that this righteousness that you fill us with will touch and impact others, the sense of justice and fairness will touch others as well. You are more than willing to move on our behalf, to work things out on our behalf so that we can see things happen and see those mountains move in our own lives and in others. We thank you and give you all the praise and glory for doing this, in Jesus’ matchless name we pray, Amen.
