Being Filled! - Filled to Speak with Other Tongues (Daily Devotional)

Hello and welcome to Living Supernaturally, we are so glad that you could join us on today’s devotion. Living Supernaturally is the daily devotion of All People's church. Today, we are looking at God’s word and meditating on this whole aspect of being filled by God. Acts chapter 2, verses 3 and 4 says, ‘Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.’ We are looking at this whole aspect of being filled by God supernaturally and here it says, they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues or other languages as the Spirit of God gave utterance. The setting is in Acts chapter 2, the early church or the first church and the New Testament church. We read the church was birthed and the supernatural phenomenon like this happened where the Spirit of God filled them, after the ascension of the Lord Jesus and they were all (120 of them) gathered together in one place in prayer, in one accord and the Spirit of God filled them. As they were filled with the Holy Spirit, something supernaturally happened, they began to speak with other tongues/ languages. These were languages they had not learnt in the natural - through alphabet, grammar or syntax but they were filled by the Spirit and began to speak in other tongues. What did they speak? Well, those who were there and those who could hear them, they heard they were speaking their language because people had gathered from the surrounding regions and the bible says, Arabs and Cretans had gathered together for the feast of Pentecost and first fruits and they could hear them speaking in their own language. What were they speaking? They were glorifying, praising, magnifying God in a language they had not learnt. Well, for some of them it seemed like gibberish because it was not a language they had known but the bible later confirms that these were heavenly languages as well. It is a supernaturally phenomenon not just to give evidence to the fact that God is real, to a fact that Jesus died on the cross, not just for that but also to impact the believer personally. The bible says in 1 Corinthians chapter 14, that he who speaks in a tongue edifies himself. There is a spiritual edification that happens. He who speaks in a tongue doesn’t know sometimes know what they should pray for. We read in Romans chapter 8, that we do not know what we should pray for but the Spirit of God speaks with groanings which cannot be uttered, makes intercession for the believer. So, these are some of the wonderful things that happen when we are filled by the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit causes us or gives utterance to speak in other languages. So, today, if you are hungry for God and more of Him, why don’t you just go ahead and ask Him to fill you with His Spirit, I want to be able to pray and speak in tongues. Let’s pray, Father, we thank you for this opportunity to be in your presence. Thank you for the promise of your word and the reality of it and all these supernatural experiences brought about by the power of your Holy Spirit. We ask that you would fill us with your Holy Spirit, fill those who are seeking you and hungry for you with your Spirit and I pray that you will pour out your Spirit and cause them to speak in other tongues, edifying themselves and pointing to you as the Lord and savior, we thank you, in Jesus’ matchless name we pray, Amen.
