Hello and welcome to today's daily devotion. You're watching Living Supernaturally which is the daily devotion of All People's church. Today, we are going to look at a scripture portion that talks about how we are filled by the Spirit and the outcome of being filled by the Spirit. We are looking at different scenarios where God wants to fill us with His Spirit or God wants to fill us with something of Himself so that we might overflow and we might have an outcome that touches others’ lives and transforms our own lives. Today, we're talking about this whole aspect of how God fills us and causes us to sing. Now did you know that God has designed us to sing? God has wired us so that we can sing His praise. Now singing actually touches us emotionally, it lifts our mood, it releases certain endorphins and oxytocin, these are the happy hormones. So, when we sing, we actually feel happy and we feel lighter and joyful. Singing also relieves stress and anxiety. We might be going through some stress but we sing wholeheartedly and full-throated singing it actually relieves stress. Singing also brings connection and confidence when we sing together with other people, maybe in a choir or a group and we are singing God's praise, when we are worshiping together, it creates a sense of belonging, community and we're able to connect with others at a deeper level. Singing also nourishes our soul, our thoughts, our emotions and imaginations are nourished when we sing. So, Ephesians chapter 5, verses 18 to 20, it says, "Do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ." So, we are called to this and we are invited to this. He says, do not be filled with wine, do not be filled with something that is a counterfeit. Well, wine can also lower inhibitions and wine can also bring us to a place of maybe singing without inhibitions and so on, but it has its repercussions. It affects us, it causes us to go and fall in despair and it is addictive and causes us to get into this endless cycle of addiction and sin and so on. But it says here, do not be drunk with wine in which is dissipation but be filled with the Spirit of God and the outcome is this - when we are filled with the Spirit, we are able to speak to one another, encouraging one another in psalms and hymns which are songs with teaching of God's word and spiritual songs which maybe spontaneous songs or choruses and singing and making melody in our hearts to the Lord. We don’t just sing these songs but also make melody, it also talks about music and how we are inspired by the Spirit of God. So, we are filled with the Spirit and we are inspired to release these songs and release this music for the glory of God which helps us and impacts us in all realms. Shall we pray? Father, we thank you Lord, thank you that you want to fill us with your Spirit and to release those songs, hymns, psalms and spiritual songs and making melodies Lord in our hearts to you and gather everyone to sing praises to you. We thank you that you've called us to this and you want to fill us to this end, we thank you, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
