Hello and welcome to Living Supernaturally. We are studying this theme, ‘be strong’ and we are looking at various contexts in which this instruction/ command ‘be strong’ is given to God’s people. When we hear such a command ‘be strong’, sometimes we might wonder because it comes to us at a time when we are not strong and we acknowledge that it can be so frustrating when we say to ourselves, I’m already weak and devoid of all strength and here comes this command in the word of God and through the Spirit of God ‘be strong’. So, what do I do? We need to study what is the context and what is God is asking us, why is He asking us to be strong? What is the assurance He is giving us? In scripture, when we see this instruction, we see that it is a possibility. Whenever there is a command, we know that it is a possibility, it is possible to walk in the fullness of that command and it is possible to obey. We are looking at Deuteronomy chapter 31, verse 6, it says, ‘Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.’ These are the words that were spoken by Moses over Joshua who was soon going to take on the mantle of Moses. God had already spoken to Moses saying that Joshua is the one who is going to lead the people into the promised land, it was not going to be Moses but Joshua. The Lord is preparing Joshua well ahead of time and saying, be strong and of good courage Joshua, don’t be afraid or fear for the Lord your God is the one who goes with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you. In the land where Joshua was supposed to lead the people into the promised land, there were many battles to be fought. It was not something that is going to passive where you just walk into it, there are many battles that they needed to face. There were giants that needed to be brought down, there was resistance that needed to be faced and there were walls that were like the wall of Jericho that had to be brought down. There was resistance and it is not going to be easy. The Lord is preempting and giving Joshua through Moses this instruction well in advance and the assurance is that the Lord will not leave you nor forsake you. So, when you face those giants, the Lord will not leave you. When you face those mountains, the Lord will not leave you nor forsake you. When you face those so-called insurmountable walls like Jericho, the Lord will not leave you nor forsake you. His promise is that He is with you and He will be with you wherever you go. Today we have this promise along with this command, even as we face the kind of situations that Joshua faced. So, we can joyfully say, yes Lord, we will be strong and courageous because you are with us to face those mountains, difficulties and overcome those challenges. Shall we pray? Father, we thank you for this promise and command. Even as you have commanded us to be strong, we thank you that you know our situations, the kind of challenges we face and yet you say, be strong and courageous because of the reassurance and the promise of your presence. Just like Moses said, if your presence doesn’t go with us, we don’t want to go forward at all. I thank you that your presence is there to lead us into all the battles that we need to face and overcome. We thank you, we give you all the praise and glory, in Jesus’ matchless name we pray, Amen.
