Is Jesus Christ the only way to salvation? Our answer is "Yes". In a world today where pluralism and relativism are readily embraced, where people try to accommodate every idea and notion, and pretentiously overlook obvious contradictions, truth that is "hard and fast" is not readily welcomed. But our goal is not to please people but to proclaim the truth in love and understanding. Each one is free then to make their own decision after having heard the truth. We present 3 simple, yet important reasons why.
May this sermon minister to you and enrich your walk of faith in Jesus Christ. We welcome you to make use of the free sermons, Christian books, and daily devotionals available on this website.
Over the last 3 Sundays, we have presented answers to some basic and yet very important questions concerning our faith. Today, we conclude this series by addressing another very challenging question: Is Jesus the Only Way To Salvation?
Our answer is "Yes" and we will explain why?
In a world today where pluralism and relativism are readily embraced, where people try to accommodate every idea and notion, and pretentiously overlook the obvious contradictions, a truth like this that is "hard and fast" is not readily welcomed. But our goal is not to please people but to proclaim the truth in love and understanding. Each one is free then to make their own decision after having heard the truth.
We will cover three important reasons why we proclaim that Jesus is the only way to salvation.
1, Because the Word of God clearly states this
The Bible states very clearly that Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation and there is no other. Consider a few Scriptures on this:
John 14:6; Acts 4:12; 1 Timothy 2:5,6; 1 John 5:11,12
The Bible is God's Word, and this is what God's Word clearly states. There is no compromise on this.
2, Because of the uniqueness of Jesus Christ
We covered each of these in detail last Sunday and we will only briefly mention these today. In each of these 9 areas, Christ remains unique:
#1, Christ's claims for Himself
#2 The Bible's statement about the deity of Christ
#3, The Bible's statement about Christ's absolute uniqueness
#4, The incarnation and virgin birth of Christ
#5, His life, work, teaching and impact on history
#6, The sacrificial death of Christ
#7, The resurrection of Christ
#8, The provision of salvation through faith in Christ
#9, The power of Christ to transform, heal and deliver
Christ stands absolutely unique as God incarnate who came into this world.
3, Because Jesus Christ alone provides a complete remedy for sin and the promise of a right relationship with God.
Romans 5:8-10
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.
10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
The underlying issue that needs to be dealt with in every human person is sin.
We are powerless to save ourselves.
Jesus came and did the very thing we needed, which we could not do for ourselves.
1 Timothy 1:15 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners,
Salvation is received by grace through faith
Ephesians 2:8,9
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.
Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Salvation and Eternal life is offered as a free gift of God. We cannot earn it. We have to simply receive it by putting our faith in Jesus Christ.
A, We cannot be saved by stringent following of religious rituals or any amount of good works because our best actions are like filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6) and even one sin is sufficient for us to stand condemned before God (Romans 6:23a).
B, We do not have the option of multiple cycles of birth and re-birth to atone for sins, because the Scripture states it is appointed for man to die one, and after that the judgment (Hebrews 9:27).
C, We cannot be saved by another person's good deeds because there is no other human person who has not sinned. We've all sinned (Romans 3:10,23) and hence each person has to account for their own sins.
Repent and Believe
To receive God's free gift of salvation each individual must repent and believe in Jesus Christ.
Mark 1:15 and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel."
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Acts 3:19 Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out,
To repent is to have a change of mind, to think differently.
Isaiah 55:7
Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the LORD, And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.
We must let go of our own ways and thoughts that are wrong, and come humbly believing in Jesus Christ and receive God's free gift of salvation.
We must let go of our own ways and thoughts of trying to achieve salvation any other way.
We must let go of our own ways and thoughts that deny the existence of God, or the reality of our sinful state, and our need for a saviour.
Invitation: Is there anyone present here today, who needs to believe in Jesus Christ?
This message of salvation must be proclaimed to every one
For us as believers, knowing this truth that Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation also places a responsibility on us. We must proclaim this truth in love, and invite people to personal saving faith in Jesus Christ.
Luke 24:46-48
46 Then He said to them, "Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day,
47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
48 And you are witnesses of these things.
Romans 10:13,14
13 For "Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved"
14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?
