Pure Holy Incense - Sacred Incense (Daily Devotional)

Greetings! Thank you once again for the opportunity to come to you and spend time with you in the word of God and prayer. This week, we are looking at the pure and holy incense that God had prescribed for the high priest to offer in the Most holy place in worship of Him. We read about this in Exodus chapter 30. Today, I want to highlight something very important that God instructed His people. He said in Exodus chapter 30, verses 37 and 38, ‘But as for the incense which you shall make, you shall not make any for yourselves…It shall be to you holy for the Lord. Whoever makes any like it, to smell it, he shall be cut off from his people.’ God was saying, look, this particular composition that I am telling you, which you are going to make and bring it into the most holy place and offer it daily on the altar of incense, this same thing you cannot make for yourselves and if anyone does, they will be cut off. So, what is God saying? This sacred incense, this worship that we give is for the Lord and the Lord alone. You don’t give it to anyone else this particular incense, our worship, our praise, our prayer, our intercession and the sacrifice that we offer, it is holy and it is only for the Lord. It is not for anyone else or anything else. There is a sacredness to this offering that we bring in our worship to God. God said very clearly, this incense is holy for the Lord and you cannot make any of it for yourselves, that means the worship, glory and praise that is due to God, we give it all to Him. There is no part of it that we keep for ourselves. It is holy, sacred and for the Lord and it is completely and entirely for Him and Him alone which means we do not touch any of the praise and worship that is due unto the Lord. When we pray, we pray wholly unto Him. There is no dependance, our prayers and intercessions are fully dependent on the Lord to whom we offer it. Of course, we do the things responsibly but our prayers are not dependent on us. Prayers are fully dependent on the Lord. Think about this, when you engage in offering your incense to God, your sacrifice of worship and praise, prayer and intercession, it is for Him and it is fully dependent on Him. Nothing to ourselves or for ourselves or on ourselves.

Let’s pray, Father, we thank you for these insights that we glean from the scriptures. Help us to apply it in our service to you, in our worship of you as priests of the Lord, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
