Greetings and thank you for joining us today in these few moments in God's word and in prayer. This week, we are talking about prayer basics - just reviewing, reflecting on some essential foundational aspects of prayer. We started off in first Timothy chapter 2 and verse 1, where Paul says, "I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men." He's talking about different kinds of prayer. We spoke about supplications which is really petitioning prayer. We want to talk about the next word he says prayers and, in the Greek, it is really talking about relational praying and focusing more on communion with God. So, when he talks about prayers, he's not talking about asking God for something or asking in order to receive which is petitioning prayer, but he's talking about prayer that's based on just relationship. It's talking about communing with God, just talking to Him, a heart-to-heart interaction or exchange with God. We would say sometimes, you're just waiting upon God, you're just talking to God about things that are on your heart, what you're going through, you're not really asking for some intervention or some miracle or something specific, you're just pouring your heart to God, having a conversation with God. But of course, it's meaningful, something is coming from your heart, you are communing with God. So, he says supplications and prayers. Prayers is this communion prayer where you're just spending time in His presence and talking to Him about various things that are going on. Maybe during that time you're also listening to God because when we commune with God, God also speaks to us. Like the Bible says, He reveals His covenant to us, He reveals His secrets to us, the righteous, He reveals things to us, He speaks to us. So, in communion prayer, you're just talking to Him, sharing your heart with Him and saying, "God, thank you." You're reflecting on the things that God has done, you are saying, "God, we've journeyed through this, thank you for helping me through this and thank you for unfolding these things and you're talking about what you might be journeying through in life, what you're expecting to happen, what God is doing in various people, things that you're observing Him do around you and you're just communing with God, talking to Him, maybe even communing with Him about His word and the things He's promised and you're actually reflecting with Him on His word. God, this is amazing what I see here and how you worked in this person's life, maybe in Joseph's life, and God, it means so much to me, I thank you for strengthening me and ministering to me. So, you are just talking to God relationally, pouring your heart to Him, sharing your heart with Him, and listening to what He would speak to you during that time. So, that's the second kind of prayer that Paul mentions here. Prayers literally meaning communion prayers, relational prayers, just a heart-to-heart talk with God. That's something you and I can practice as we build our life of prayer. Let's close, Father, we thank you that you teach us how to pray and we ask that you help each of us just build our life of prayer, of being in your presence as we pray, we thank you, in Jesus' name, Amen.
