Sermons church in Bangalore
Greetings and thank you for joining us today. We are so glad that we could take these few moments, spend this time together in God's word and prayer. This week, we are reflecting on a few scriptures on our identity in Christ and just to remind ourselves of what God has done for us and who we are in Christ. Today, we go to 2 Corinthians chapter 5 and verse 21, the apostle Paul tells us this, he says, "For He made Him, that is God the Father, made Jesus, who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him." So here once again, we see that little phrase ‘in Him’ or ‘in Christ’. Paul is telling us what God has done for us and who we are in Him or in Jesus. Paul is telling us that the Lord Jesus who was perfect and sinless was made sin for us. So, God took all our filth, all our sin, all our wrongdoing, put that on Jesus, but He didn't stop there. He continues saying, "God the Father did that so that we might be made the righteousness of God in Christ." Now, that's to say plainly, it just boggles our minds that we people, who are sinners have been made the righteousness of God in Christ. So, in Christ, what has happened to you and me? God has given to us His righteousness and He has made us His righteousness. Let's think about that, God is absolutely perfect, absolutely righteous, sinless, pure and holy. The only way any one of us could enter His presence is if we had something that matched up to His righteousness, His holiness, His purity and there is no way that we could ever acquire that by ourselves. God knew that and we know it. So, what did God do? He gave to us His righteousness, that means if you want to imagine this or visualize it in your mind, God took His perfectly sinless, spotless robe and put it on us. He washed us clean with the blood of Jesus, removed all our sin, and then He clothed us with His own righteousness and that's the only thing that qualifies us to ever go before God in prayer. So, when you and I approach God in prayer, we are actually approaching God and the only way we're able to approach God is because we are actually wearing His white robe of righteousness. We are clothed with the robe that He gave to us and that robe is His righteousness. So, what does that mean? It means when we go to God, we don't go to God saying God, I am such a sinner. We go to God saying, God, I thank you, you've given me your righteousness and that's how I'm coming into your presence. I'm coming into your presence with that sense of acceptance, of being welcome and being clothed in your righteousness. I'm not coming there all dirty and filthy, that's all being dealt with through the blood of Jesus. As we come in the presence of God, we're walking in there with His garment, His own righteousness on us. So, we hold our head up high, not with pride or arrogance, but knowing that we are loved and accepted. That's how we pray and that's how we approach God. What a joy and a blessing. Let's pray, Father, thank you for giving to us your righteousness, that we could come into your presence knowing that what's on you is on us, that your righteousness has been given to us and that's the only way we are standing in your presence, but that also gives us absolute confidence that we can be there, that we can talk to you knowing that there is no condemnation, no guilt, no shame on us. We thank you for this blessing and this gift of righteousness, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
