Daily Devotional church in Bangalore
by Ps Nancy Ramya

Hello everyone, welcome! We take time usually to meditate in God’s word and be strengthened by it through these devotions. This time around, I just want to talk about being zealous for the Lord, for the things that God wants us to pursue and things that are in God’s word and are appointed for us to be passionate about them. Today, I want to remind us that as believers, we must be zealous for prayer. Talking about prayer in the church, prayer among God’s people, it is quite clear that prayer is something that is so close to God’s heart, that He called His house or the church or the body as a house of prayer. In Isaiah chapter 56, verse 7, it says, ‘Even them I will bring to My holy mountain, and make them joyful in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices Will be accepted on My altar; For My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.”’ God has chosen to call His house or as far as the New Testament is concerned, we are all living stones, so we are not talking about the building here, but we are talking about God’s people, who are the house of God and we are meant to be a house of prayer and God emphasizes that several times over. Prayer is us speaking to God and God speaking back to us. Prayer is us bringing our love, devotion, affection, thanksgiving, praises, adoration unto God and being heard by God and God in turn manifesting His power, His glory in our lives. Prayer is a privilege that each one of us can participate in prayer, it can be personal prayer, it can be prayer in twos or threes, it can be corporate prayer where we seek God together. This is something that God really wants for the church. So, we need to be zealous about prayer. When we look at the life of the Lord Jesus, He was passionate about prayer and prayer marked His life. We can get into so many examples, Jesus prayed in a solitary place, He made time for prayer, He went away from the crowds, He wants to fellowship with the Father. We find that Jesus woke up very early in the morning and prayer, Jesus prayed through the night, Jesus prayed in the garden of Gethsemane, so, His life was entirely marked by prayer. Even though we may think that he was the Son of God, and could be exempt from prayer but He took time in prayer and no wonder in 3-3.5 years, His ministry was so powerful. Similarly, when we look at the early church, the apostles they had a lifestyle of church. We find that it was a praying church through all seasons, praying church while waiting on the promises of God, the promise of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the disciples and God’s people were in one accord, waiting upon the Lord and suddenly the baptism happened. Similarly on later accounts, we find that even during times of trials where there were threats from the authorities and they couldn’t do ministry the way they were doing earlier, in difficult times, the early church/ the first century church was a church that prayed. So, for us friends, this is something that we need for our personal lives, in our groups, in our churches to take time in prayer. When we pray, what really happens is that we are demonstrating our complete dependance on God. When we pray in accordance to the word of God, we are demonstrating our faith in the word and the power of God. When we pray, we are partnering together with God, we are releasing the authority which has already been given to us in the name of Jesus. So, let’s arise as a praying church, zealous for prayer because God wants His house to be a house of prayer. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, we thank you for encouraging our hearts to invest in prayer. We pray for the spirit of grace and supplication to be upon each one and we pray that you will stir up the life of prayer in each one of us and we thank you that even as you do this, we are going to experience times of refreshing in your presence, we give you thanks and praise, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
