You Are Witnesses (Daily Devotional)

Greetings and thank you for the opportunity to come together like this and take a few minutes in prayer and in the word of God. This week, we are continuing to talk about personal evangelism and we are talking about it from the perspective of the commission the Lord Jesus gave to you and to me as His followers. I want to bring our attention today to Luke the 24th chapter, verses 44 to 48, here are the words Jesus said to them, that is Jesus said to His disciples, ‘these are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all the things must be fulfilled which were written in the law of Moses and the prophets and the Psalms concerning me. And He opened their understanding that they might comprehend the scriptures. Then He said to them, thus it is written, thus it was necessary for Christ to suffer, and to rise from the third day and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And you are witnesses of these things.’ So, after Jesus had resurrected from the dead, He explained to His disciple how all that the prophets had spoken about were fulfilled in Him and then He said, this message must be preached to all the nations, that this message which calls for repentance and which brings forgiveness for sins must be preached in all the nations, starting from Jerusalem. He told His disciples you are witnesses of these things. In other words, if you want to paraphrase that Jesus saying I've done my work, I’ve explained it to you and I want you to take it to everyone, everywhere so they can have repentance and remission of sins and you are witnesses of the things that you have understood. So, that's the commission that bears upon our lives, it remains on us today that we have understood these things what Christ did for us on the cross, how all the prophecies have been fulfilled the scriptures have been fulfilled in Jesus Christ and having understood that we now have a responsibility to bring that message, calling people to repentance and to receive forgiveness for their sins, we've been given that responsibility to go to everyone, everywhere and we are witnesses of the things we've understood from the scripture. So, understanding the gospel also brings with it a responsibility to share the gospel with other people. So, thank God we're saved, thank God we know Jesus, thank God we've understood the great redemption that is in Jesus, wonderful! But along with that has come this responsibility, Jesus said you are witnesses of these things and let's be His witnesses of the things we've understood. Let's pray, Father, we ask that you will help us be witness. Help us share Jesus with those around us that as and when opportunity comes that we will step into those opportunities and share the message of Jesus Christ with people, that they will encounter you, that there will be repentance and remission of sins in their lives, as they hear the gospel. Help us to do this we pray, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
