Daily Devotional church in Bangalore
by Ps Jeyakumar Isaiah
Hello and welcome back, welcome to Living Supernaturally. We're so glad that you could tune in. We're studying God's word together and also learning to apply it in our lives daily so that we can experience the power and experience the fruit of God's word in our lives. We've been studying about the gifts of the Spirit and today specifically we are looking at this topic, of how all the nine gifts of the Spirit are for each and every believer. Now, there used to be a line of thinking and probably it's still there that one person walks in a particular gift and the other person well, he has a different gift and we're all together and we're all one body. Well, that is true to some extent. But when we look at the word of God, we see that the gifts of the Holy Spirit, they belong to Him and He comes and indwells us. We look at certain scripture, certain instructions about the gifts of the Spirit which point to the fact that it is not a gift or it is not a few gifts, but all the gifts simply because the Holy Spirit, He indwells us. Let's look at a few verses, 1 Corinthians chapter 12, verse 31, it says, "But earnestly desire the best gifts and yet I show you a more excellent way.’ And he goes on to talk about the love of God. He says, Desire the best gifts, plural. He's talking about in that same chapter, he's listed down nine gifts of the Spirit, nine expressions of the Holy Spirit, he says, Desire the best gifts, plural. The next chapter, 1 Corinthians chapter 14 and verse 1, it says, "Pursue love and desire spiritual gifts." Again, plural, all the gifts, He doesn't make a restriction on what gifts the believer is supposed to desire. Why should the believer desire? So that the believer can walk in those gifts, so that God can manifest Himself in all these ways. All believers are instructed to earnestly desire, there is no restriction there on the number of gifts and sometimes we think, what about 1 Corinthians chapter 12 and verse 8? It says, "To one is given this gift and to another is given this gift.” We need to understand that chapters 12, 13, and 14 are one train of thought or one intention there. The objective is to build the church in the gifts of the Spirit. So, Paul is writing to the church and saying, it's on the same topic. So, he's saying, every time you come together as a church, there is a gathering, well, the Spirit of God chooses to express Himself in all these different ways, through one believer in this way, through another believer in this way, and so on at a gathering. Now, the next time the gathering happens, the Holy Spirit, He chooses to display His presence and power in different ways through the other believer. So that does not mean that He chooses only to work in a certain gift for a certain believer or only to give a certain gift to a certain believer. So, we see that it is for all believers. What are these best gifts that he's talking about? The best gifts are the gifts that are suited for that particular circumstance or need which require the presence and power of the Lord Jesus. So, the best gifts therefore gifts refer to the most useful, most serviceable, most advantageous, most excellent. So, it is a gift that is suited for that particular situation or need which is experienced by people. So, if it is something to do with a limitation in our body or symptoms people are experiencing, the best gift is gifts of healings. If somebody is feeling down in the spirit and they are discouraged and the best gift there is encouragement and the word of knowledge just does that. So, we see that even in this exhortation for desiring the best gifts, he's not restricted to a few but all. Therefore, we know that all the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit are for all the believers. So, don't disqualify yourself, don't put a limit on yourself, but just open your heart to God. Let's open ourselves to God and say, "Lord, in all the ways and through all the nine gifts, you move in and you move through me. Shall we pray? Father, we thank you for this wonderful privilege that you have invited us and you have drawn us to yourself so that you can move through us in all these wonderful gifts of the Spirit. Lord, we thank you, we place ourselves in your plans and we yield ourselves to you and we say, "Come, Holy Spirit, have your way in us, have your way through us. Let people have an encounter with your presence. Let people have an encounter with your power and we pray God even as we desire the best gifts, we pray that you would manifest so that situations can change, things can change, and people's lives be touched and transformed for your glory, in Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
