Greetings and thank you so much for joining us the opportunity to come to you today, spend these few moments in God’s word and prayer. This week, we are looking at tabernacle of Moses and the different pieces of furniture and different parts of the worship that took place in the tabernacle and drawing insight from that and what it means for us as New Testament believers. Like we said in the very beginning, the New Testament is telling us that the tabernacle was a picture and shadow of what was heavenly and in the realm of spirit which is what we engage in. We started talking about the holy place yesterday. We talked about the lampstand that was kept in the holy place and there were two additional elements in the holy place. There was a table of showbread- so it was a table where once a week, the high priest brought in twelve loaves of bread. The bread was flour and wheat, nothing else, no leaven/ honey/ oil. Twelve loaves representing the twelve tribes, stacked up in two levels of six each, laid on the table and it was changed every week. So, once a week on the Sabbath day, the priest would take out the old and bring in the new loaves and place it there before the very presence of God. There was also a bowl of frankincense kept beside the showbread. Of course, at the end of seven days, when the bread was taken out, it was consumed by the priest. There was another element of worship in the holy place which was the alter of holy incense. God had instructed the people on how to make the holy incense- the four important elements to it and the priest would full the alter of incense with this specially prepared holy incense and burn it before the Lord twice a day, morning and evening, the alter of incense would burn by the priest. These elements speak to us about what we engage in in our worship of God. The bread of course we know pointing not only to Jesus who is the bread of life but the word of God which is our bread. So, it is talking about communion/ fellowship with the Lord Jesus and His word. The alter of incense, the New and Old Testament represents worship and prayer. We see this beautifully in Revelation chapter 5 and 8, talking about a worship incense rising up before God. So, in the holy place as believers, we have communion with the Lord and His word and we engage in the offering up of worship and prayer as part of our service unto God- the incense telling us about worship and prayer. What a powerful picture of what we New Testament believers engage in.
Let us pray, Father, we thank you that as we worship you, we learn to feed upon the word, walk in fellowship with Jesus - the bread of life and to offer up our worship and our prayer in your holy presence. Help us to do this we pray, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
