The Prize (Daily Devotional)

Greetings and thank you so much for joining us this week, each and every day, as we’ve been talking about the past, the present, the future. How do we as believers live in the dynamic of these three aspects that are influencing everything that we are doing day to day? In the present, we are mindful of the purpose of God, the process of God and the pursuit that we should be having, this straining forward for our future. We are looking to the things that God has for our future, things which He has prepared for us. Secondly, based on our text of Philippians chapter 3, verses 12 to 14, Paul says in verse 14, ‘I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.’ There is the goal, the upward call, the heavenly call and the prize. Three things are out in the future- the goal- things He wants us to fulfill, the call- things He wants us to accomplish, the assignment for our lives and there is the prize, - the reward He has in our future. So, in our present, we look into our future and we see there is a prize and that motivates us in the present. You can make sacrifice, you can take risks, you can do things knowing that there is a prize. The prize motivates us and that is a good thing that God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him, that God will reward us for the things we do for His kingdom and His people. It is a good thing to be motivated by the prize because Paul says, I am pressing toward, I know there is a goal and a heavenly call, I also know there is a prize- to hear God say ‘well done’, ‘you did a good job’ that is the prize and that motivates us in the present. So, in the present, we are looking into the future, there are things God has for us, there is the goal, the heavenly call and the prize out in the future and we pursue those things, we live by those things. This is how as a believer, we balance the past, the present and the future. We live in the dynamic of these things. As we make decisions today, all of these things are helping us make the right choices and journey through life. Let’s pray, Father, we thank you for things that you have prepared for us, we thank you for the goal you have set for each of us, the heavenly call that you have on each of us and the prize that is awaiting. Because there is a prize, we can do what we need to do today. No sacrifice is too big because there is a great reward, the glory which shall we revealed is greater than the sufferings of this present time. We commit ourselves to you, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
