Hello and welcome to Living Supernaturally. We're so glad that you could be here today, where we are looking at, what does it mean to be a normal Christian and what are some aspects of the normal Christian life? Sometimes we wonder is it normal for a Christian to live like this? Is it normal for a Christian to believe like this and so on? So, we're going to let the word of God describe what it is to be a normal Christian and what it is to live a normal Christian life. We see in Matthew chapter 4 and verse 4, the Lord Jesus saying, ‘He answered and said, “it is written, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ In other words, the Lord was saying as food is for the physical body, so is the quickened word of God for the spiritual nourishment of the disciple. So, the disciple literally feeds on God's word, making the time and effort to receive it, being intentional about it, to read the words, to study the word, to declare and confess the word. So, the quickened word of God is a spiritual nourishment for the disciple. So, if you're saying, is it normal for a Christian to read the word of God? Is it normal for a Christian to spend so much time in the word of God? Yes, it is normal because as food is to the body, so also the word of God for a normal Christian. When we look at John chapter 8, verses 31 and 32, the Lord Jesus says, "Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed him, "If you abide in my word, you are my disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free."’ If you abide in my word, what is the Lord saying there? So, the Lord is saying that let the word, let my words stay in you, be part of you and dwell in you so much so that our choices, decisions, lifestyle, work, leisure, entertainment, our values, everything is based on and defined by the word of God. Just think about that. The word of God defines our choices. Our life is based on the word of God. So, we might think, does it mean that I have to become a super spiritual person, a person who's always thinking about what does the word of God say? Well, for the Christian, the word of God is the reference point. The word of God is the is the standard by which one lives. Colossians chapter 3 and verse 16 says this, ‘Let the word of God or let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.’ So, let the word of God dwell in us, stay in us, abide in us, so much so our thoughts, our choices, our motives, intentions, everything is defined or dictated by the word of God. So, this is normal for a Christian. Shall we pray? Father, we thank you for your word. We thank you that your word is spirit and it is life and we thank you that we have access to your word and ample access to hear your word, ample opportunity to receive your word. And so, Lord, we make it a choice to stay in your word, to allow your word to dwell in us richly, to fill ourselves with your word so that our life can change and we can live a life that is dictated by your word, we thank you, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
