Greetings and thank you once again for giving us the opportunity to come to you today, spend these few moments with you in God’s word and prayer. This week, we’ve been talking about learning how to release the gift of prophecy, how to prophecy. Today, I want to share just one more step/ instruction on releasing the gift of prophecy which is that we must let the prophetic word be tested. Paul tells us in 1 Thessalonians chapter 5, verses 19 to 21, which we read earlier this week, he said, ‘Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast what is good.’ Along with receiving prophecies, the instruction is for us to test all things, that means the recipient/ person receiving the prophecy has a responsibility to test/ evaluate/ see if it is really from God and what parts are really from God, what parts he must keep and what parts to be discarded because he says here test all things, hold fast to what is good, that means keep what is good which also implies get rid of what is not good. When you give a prophetic word/ prophecy, you let the other person test it, you ask them, hey, is it true? Is it right or wrong, take what is right and leave what is wrong. Give the other person freedom to work with the prophecy. Don’t insist that they have to listen to every word you have given; they are not obligated to do that. In fact, on the contrary, the scriptures instruct them to test whatever you have given them. Humbly submit your prophecy and then say pray over it, see what the Lord leads you to do with it and be free to do whatever the Lord leads you. Don’t force them to follow every little thing you have spoken in that prophetic utterance, that wouldn’t be kind, that would be controlling, manipulating another person just because you think you have heard from God, don’t do that. Instead, you let them test, you’ve submitted the word, say I just feel this is what the Lord wanted me to tell you, I’ve shared it with you, leave it at that. You step out of the way, let them work with it, test it and whatever they perceive to be of God, let them work with that. Give them the full freedom to discard any part of your prophecy which they feel is not from God. Because the bible tells us to test all things and to hold onto to what is good which means discard what is not good. Give them the freedom to do that. Let’s pray, Father, we ask that you give us wisdom and grace as we minister to one another in prophecy. Let everything we speak be for the edification and the exhortation and comfort of the people around us and may it bring you glory and honor, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
