Shalom and welcome to the last episode of the series on restoration. We have been learning and meditating on the theme of restoration and for our devotion today, we look at the final restoration. The last two chapters in Revelation, speaks of the final and the full restoration of all things. It is the revelation of God’s promise to redeem His creation and His people. We will be looking at 4 verses from Revelation chapter 21, verses 1 to 4, ‘Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also, there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”’ Some of the things that we read and learn from these 4 verses is what we are going to see as the final restoration. I would just like to highlight three of them that is brought about in these verses, to encourage us to keep looking forward. The first one spoken of is in verse 1, is the creation of a new heaven and earth. This indicates that all of creation is one day going to be renewed where the effects of sin and curse has been removed. What does this imply? That the old things have passed or the old order of things that has been characterized by death, by sin, by suffering will be no more and this restoration that we will see one day will bring us hope and reassurance that all that which is defiled will be restored. In verse 3, we see that the tabernacle of God is with men and He will dwell with them. This again is a declaration of God’s intention and plan for history. This signifies that God will one day reconcile, he will have complete reconciliation between God and humanity. He is going to make His tabernacle with us, His tent, His dwelling will be with us, where there will be no barriers of sin, all the barriers of sin will be removed. God’s presence will be direct, will be intimate and will be unmediated. This really signifies that deep and intimate relationship between God and His people with all the barrier of sin, anything that separate humanity from God has been completely removed. The third we see is in verse 4, the promise that He will wipe away every tear from our eyes. No more death, no more mourning, no more crying, no more pain because the old has passed away. It is a declaration of an eradication of pain, suffering and death. He plans to bring a new order where suffering as we know it will no kore be existent. This is a source of deep comfort for us as believers and a sense of anticipation. We are longing for a time in a world where all injustice, suffering and trials will be no more. It assures us that God is attentive to our pain and that He will make all things new. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, we look forward to that time when you will restore us uno you, when our relationship with you will be unmediated, where there will be no more crying, pain, suffering and we will experience everlasting, eternal joy with you. We look forward in anticipation to that time and day, we thank you for this promise, in Jesus’s precious name we pray, Amen.
