Daily Devotional church in Bangalore
by Sam D. Mathews
Hello everyone and welcome to Living Supernaturally, the daily devotional of All People's Church, where we spend a few minutes in God's word to encourage us, to remind us, and to build our faith up. This week, we're looking at the theme the church of Jesus and today, I just want to emphasize that the church of Jesus is the pillar and ground of truth. 1 Timothy chapter 3 and verse 15, Paul writes to Timothy and says, "But if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of truth." So, the church of Jesus is the pillar and ground of truth. I want to focus on two words: pillar which simply means something that is upright, that holds something up and so, the church really needs to be a place where God's word, which is the truth, it holds it up high. Think about columns that hold up a large building, that's the picture. The church needs to be a pillar, a building of truth. The second word is ground which simply means the original Greek means a foundation, a support, a base. The church is not just the carrier of truth, but it is the foundation of truth. In a world where truth is very subjective, the church needs to be a place that is foundation of the truth of the word of God. What does this mean for us in our world today? First, we must commit to the word of God which is the truth. Not just one truth among many truths, but the truth. The church must be aligned, must be committed to it, and must be willing to preach it even in difficult times, even in the culture, whatever culture is going on. Second, we must amplify the truth over error. We're living in a world where there is news, there's culture, there's lies, all sorts of information floating around, but the church needs to be a place where the truth is amplified, where the truth is preached, where the truth, even regardless of all the voices and noises in the culture, the truth is being preached. And lastly, the church needs to be a place where we give clear answers, because we have the truth of God's word, the church needs to be a place where people who are coming in with questions, who are facing issues in their life, questions about marriage, question about money, questions about morality, about social issues, because the church has the truth, the church must address all these issues. So, three simple reminders of what it means to be the pillar and the ground of truth. Number one, we commit to the word of God. Number two, we amplify the truth in the midst of whatever culture we're living in, all the news, all the lies, we continue to amplify and preach the truth. And lastly, we give a clear answer on the different issues of life. Many people have many questions and they're seeking for answers and the church needs to be a place where the truth is preached on all these different issues, and that is God's word. So, I want to encourage us and remind us that the church is the pillar and the ground of truth. Let's pray, Father, we just thank you once again for this time. Thank you for reminding us that your church, the church of God, is the pillar and the ground of truth. I pray that each one of us who are part of the church will hold on to your word, which is the truth, regardless of all the voices, all the noises in our world, which is getting louder and louder. I just pray that we will hold on to your truth, we will preach your truth, and many people will experience the truth of the word of God. We thank you that your word is our life and your word has answers that that can answer any question concerning the issues of life. And I pray that as a church, each one of us will uphold this picture to be the pillar and the ground of truth, we thank you once again, in Jesus' mighty name we pray, Amen.
