The Church of Jesus - The Household of Faith (Daily Devotional)

Hello everyone and welcome to Living Supernaturally, the daily devotionals of All People's Church, where we spend a few minutes in God's word to build our faith up and to be fruitful in God's kingdom. This week, we're focusing on the theme the church of Jesus and today, I just want to emphasize on the point that we are the body of Christ. The apostle Paul gives us one of the clearest images of what it means to be the body of Christ. In 1 Corinthians chapter 12, verses 12 to 27, it's a long passage, but we will focus on a few verses. Verse 12 says, "For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body. So also, is Christ." So, really, as the body of Christ, we are one body but many members. We're all different, we all have different personalities, different giftings, but we are all part of one body. While we're all different, we're still part of one body with Christ as our head. Secondly, in verses 15 and 16, Paul uses a very funny illustration, he says, "If the foot should say, because I am not a hand, I am not part of the body." It simply means we cannot be independent. Imagine the foot saying, "I don't belong to the hand, so I'm not part of the body." The foot is part of the body and so every member in the body of Christ cannot be independent, they are part of the body, they're not living in isolation, but they are part of the body of Christ that Jesus is building. Thirdly, in verse 21 of this passage, he says, "And the eye cannot say to the hand, I have no need of you." Which means every member, every part of the body needs each other, we cannot act independently or we cannot say one body part is not important. Everybody, every member of the body is important. Every member has a role and so, we need each other and we really need to care for each other. And then in verses 22 to 24, he says, "For the members that are hidden." So, there are members, just like the human body where different parts of the body are hidden or not seen, God says, "I will place a greater honor on them." Which means members that are not seen or body parts that are not valuable in our sight, God says they're valuable to me and so, every member in the body of Christ is valuable and is cherished by God Himself. And so, we need to treat every member with value. And lastly, verses 25 to 26, it says, "But that the members should have the same care for one another. And if one member suffers, all members suffer with it." It really talks about unity and caring for each other. The body of Christ should be united, we must be of one mind and we must be united in Christ. Jesus does not want division in His body. But all members, every one of us should be of one mind, united for the mission of the church. So, I just want to remind us of 5 things as the body of Christ. The body has many members, we're all different. Number two, we cannot be independent. Number three, we need each other. Number four, God gives greater honor to what seems less or hidden. And lastly, God does not want division, He wants us to be united. This is really the picture of the body of Christ. Let's pray, Father, we just thank you for this time and for reminding us of what it means to be the body of Christ. Thank you that each one of us are valuable in your sight. Each one of us are part of the church of Jesus. Each one of us have a role and we just pray that we will flow together in unity as your body. Lord, we thank you for this truth and thank you for this reminder, in Jesus' mighty name we pray, Amen.
