Daily Devotional church in Bangalore
by Sam D. Mathews
Hello everyone and welcome to Living Supernaturally, the daily devotions of All Peoples church, where we spend a few minutes in God's word to remind ourselves to build our faith and to live a life that is fruitful in God's kingdom. This week, we've been focusing on the theme: the church of Jesus and today, I just want to emphasize the church is the household of faith. Galatians chapter 6 verse 10 says, "Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith." In this verse, Paul is writing and he uses the word ‘household of faith’ and I want to focus on that word ‘household’. The word ‘household’ simply means family. So really the church is the family of God and then he says the household of faith. So, it is the family of faith, those who put their faith in Jesus, we are called a family. In Ephesians chapter 2 verse 19, Paul writes, "Now therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God." Same word, ‘household of God’. So, before Christ, we were all strangers, but now in Christ, when we have put our faith in Jesus, we are part of this household, we are part of this family, the family of God and Jesus is the head of this family and all of us flow together and we are part of this family. Now, every healthy house must have fathers, mothers, young men, young women and little children. Now imagine, you enter a nursery and there are just babies all around, and there's maybe just one nurse taking care of so many babies. But a healthy house must have a good balance of mothers, fathers, young men, young women, and little children. And so, each one of us, being part of the household, being part of the family of God, we need to nurture each other. In the epistle of 1 John chapter 2 verses 12 to 14, John writes to fathers, young men and to little children. Then in the epistle of Titus chapter 2, he says that the older women should encourage the younger women. And so, we see that in this family, in the household of faith, a healthy household, a healthy family has fathers, mothers, young men, young women, and little children. And so, the family of God should be a place where nurturing happens, where fathers are encouraging young men, and young men are building up little children. And so, together we are growing in Christ with each other and that is what it means to be part of the household of faith, where each one of us are building our faith up, we are maturing in Christ, and all of us eventually become fathers and mothers in the family of God. Let's pray, Father, we just thank you once again for this reminder that the church of Jesus is the household of faith, the family of faith and Lord, we thank you that each one of us who have put our faith in you are part of this family. Lord, we are not living alone, but we are truly connected to each other and that we have brothers and sisters, fathers and mothers, and little children, Lord. And I pray, Lord, that each one of us will grow in faith, mature in faith, and eventually, we will become fathers and mothers in the household of God, in the family of God. We thank you for this reminder, we thank you for this truth, in Jesus’ mighty name we pray, Amen.
