The Book Of Joshua - Confidence (Daily Devotional)

Greetings and welcome to Living Supernaturally. Thank you so much for giving us this opportunity to spend a few moments in the word and also in prayer. Today, we will talk about confidence. Joshua chapter 3, verses 15 and 16, ‘Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water’s edge, the water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap a great distance away, at a town called Adam in the vicinity of Zarethan, while the water flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah (that is, the Dead Sea) was completely cut off. So, the people crossed over opposite Jericho.’ Like us, the Israelites were faced with a choice of obedience. God had decided that His people were going to cross the river Jordan and this time, it is going to be in a different way - to not cross in disobedience. It was harvest time and the Jordan river was overflowing. To the Canaanites, it would appear that Baal had blessed them and was defending them. Surely, no army could cross the great barrier of an overflowing river still everyone heard that the Israelites crossed the Red Sea on dry land. It is foolish to put our confidence in worthless idols. When the feet of the priests touched the flooded Jordan, the waters receded. In His presence, God’s people pass through on dry land. The priests began the procession with the ark of the covenant about thousand yards in front of the people. When the priests stepped into the river and stood there, the waters were still flowing as if it was a flood. The text doesn’t tell us how the priest stood in the river. It might seem like a moment but it also may have been a long time. In a situation like that, even a moment seems like a long time. It is human nature to want the riverbed to dry up at the very first step but God called the priests of Israel to step out in faith. In some miraculous manner, God stopped the flow of the river Jordan. The crossing of the Jordan river was a key event in Israel’ history. Just as crossing of the Red sea changed Israel’ standing from slavery to freedom, passing the Jordan river into the promised land transformed the people of Israel from a wandering people to an established nation. Crossing into the promised land also represented a break from Israel’ past. When the daily provision of manna stopped, it forced people to conquer their enemies and subdue the land that God intended for them. Trust in God and His Son Jesus who stills stormy waters and feeds thousands to this very day. As believers, observe the word of God, obey His commandments, follow after Jesus and keep Jesus and His victory central and God will open miraculous paths for us.

Let us pray, Father, we thank you for your word that teaches us that you are a miracle working and supernatural God. We pray that even as we go about in our work, careers, families, we will expect and walk in the supernatural that you have for us, we thank you, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
