Greetings and welcome to Living Supernaturally, thank you once again for this opportunity to minister God's word and spend these few moments in prayer. This week, we’re talking about the armor of God and today, we will look at the sword of the Spirit. The sword is both an offensive and a defensive weapon held by the soldiers and warriors. In this case, it is a weapon belonging to the Holy Spirit. Swords were used to protect oneself from harm or to attack the enemy and to overcome and kill them. In both cases, it was necessary for a soldier to get rigid training on the proper use of the sword for maximum protection. All Christian soldiers need the same rigid training to know how to properly use the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God. The sword that Paul refers to here is the holy scriptures. In Hebrews chapter 4, verse 12, God refers to His word as a sword. Here the word is described as living and active, sharper than a double-edged sword. The Roman sword was commonly made in this manner. The fact that it had two edges made it easier to penetrate as well as to cut in every way, the idea of piercing or penetrating. The word of God reaches the heart to the very center of action and lays open the motives and the feelings of those who touch it. The one note that rings out from this text is take the sword. No longer it is talk and debate, no longer it is relaxed and compromise. The key is to using the sword of the Spirit effectively and knowing how to use the sword well. It is hard to wield a weapon we cannot grasp. So, how do we become skilled warriors of the sword of the Spirit? Just a few points here, number one, read the word which is the sword of the Spirit and read it regularly. Two, memorize God’s word. Three, we must ask God to reveal Himself through this word. The word of God is also the sword of the Spirit because He puts His edge on it. It is because He is in it soaking and cutting. Sometimes, it is not easy to take up our swords and fight against the enemy. However, we are not called to do this by our own strength. When facing trials, we can find peace knowing that God is on our side. Romans chapter 8, ever 31 says, ‘What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?’ Let’s pray, Father, we thank you for what we are learning this week. We thank you for the sword of the Spirit, the word of God which is alive and active, sharper than a double-edged sword that penetrates into our hearts. We pray that you enable each one of us to be readers and doers of your word, that we will learn to mediate, ponder on your word, hide your word in our hearts and to know how to use your word against the attacks of the enemy. Thank you for doing this, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
