Shalom and welcome to our series of Living Supernaturally. In our episodes this week, we have been talking about how do we take responsibility. One of the principles that we see in taking responsibility is, that it is related to the law of sowing and reaping. 2 Corinthians chapter 9, verse 6 says, ‘The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.’ Just as sowing and reaping is one of the laws of our natural world, it is also a known kingdom law. We see that in scripture these farming terms of sowing and reaping have been used many times as a metaphor. It means that there are natural consequences to our actions. The world operates under the law of cause and effect. Every time we choose an action, we also choose the consequence of that action. Sowing and reaping are unchangeable laws of seedtime and harvest. What does it mean to reap? It means to gather a crop or to receive something as a consequence of some action and to sow is to cultivate, is to plant, is to plant seeds for growth or to do something that will eventually bring out a certain result. The farmer will always reap the same kind of plant or fruit that he has sown. It means that the choices you make brings consequence. Every time, in our responsibilities, when we choose to be responsible, it brings about a good consequence. Making wise and responsible choices helps us reap good benefits and we must sow responsibly to reap the benefits. Even in the contrary, the poor choices we make will bring about poor consequences. The truth is that we are all sowing something, whether or not you realize it. Unfortunately, the negative things we sow, can produce a harvest just as much as the good things that we sow. We are responsible for what we sow in. If we sow honest labor, we reap increase. If we sow diligence, we reap riches. If we sow into our relationships, we will reap more depth in our connections. If we sow righteousness, we reap mercy. If we sow to the Spirit, we reap everlasting life. So, sowing in God’s word results in us choosing to obey and it creates those boundaries. These are some examples- maybe eating responsibly creates better health outcomes, studying well creates good passing grades. So, when God tells us that we will reap what we sow, He is not punishing us, He is just telling us how things are. Knowing that this law is at work in all you do, let us take our responsibilities seriously, whether it be our health, our time with God, with our relationships, with our marriages, with our work, with our time, with our investments, with anything, let us remember that when we sow responsibly, we reap good rewards. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, we thank you for the law that is in effect. We pray that you give us the grace, the good sense to sow responsibly. Help us in every area of our lives to do what is needed so we can have a good reward, thank you for empowering us, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
